Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mr. Mehta,
I am writing this letter to express my interest for switching to counselling department in the company.
I have been working as an Admissions Officer from more than two years in this company and have gained an excellent communication skills as well as confidence to deal with difficult clients and to solve their queries related to their admission in international universities. Additionally, by processing admissions applications, I am now aware about the entry requirements of most of the institutions worldwide.
I believe that my experience in admissions department will definitely be a great asset for company as it will not only allow me to convince more students for universities in our direct link but will help the company to recruit more candidates for better connection with international officers. When more students will join our partnered institutions then company will get more commission based on their tuition fee payment.
At this stage, I am not interested to move to a different company because of the excellent reputation of our company and I do not want to leave my clients struggling after my resignation. Therefore, I request you to please consider my profile for Senior Counsellor position here.
Thanks in advance.
Yours faithfully,
Rajwinder Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state your current experience, explain the benefits of your transfer to the company, and provide a valid reason for wanting to stay. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are slightly more sophisticated; for example, when discussing the benefits to the company, you could focus more on professional growth and departmental synergy rather than just commission-based revenue, which sounds slightly transactional for a formal request to a manager.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally,' 'I believe that,' and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that transitions between sentences are smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'gained an excellent communication skills' and 'great asset' are used effectively. However, there are some minor errors in collocation and word choice, such as 'interest for switching' (should be 'interest in switching') and 'from more than two years' (should be 'for more than two years'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise professional terminology and ensure that prepositions are used correctly with your chosen verbs and nouns.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'an excellent communication skills' (should be 'excellent communication skills') and 'then company will get' (missing the article 'the'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, focus on consistent article usage and subject-verb agreement. Your control over sentence structure is generally good, but increasing the variety of complex structures would further enhance your writing.
