Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to request you to change my department in same organization for my future growth and opportunities.

I am really appreciate my collague for their cooperation during my training phase. I have been working with your company from last 2 years where not only I gain my experience but also learned a lots of skills like time managment, planning ahead, cooperation, team work, patience, and being professional.

As I am confident with my skills and experience, which can positively contribute towards the organization and profit. Last month I have completed my post graduate degree from one of the best university where I learned new skills and I would like to perform it as a my job responsibilty.

I am more emotionally attached with the organization and my experince and education feets the postion perfectly. Overall, one thing I like the most about the organization is working culture and employee benefits.

I would apppreciate it if you could consider my request.

Thank you for your time and consideration I look forward to your response .

Yours faithfully,

Prarthana

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what you have learned, suggest how the company would benefit from your transfer, and explain your loyalty to the firm. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, when mentioning how the company would benefit, you state it would contribute to 'profit' but do not specify how your new skills or degree would achieve this. To reach a higher band, provide more concrete examples of how your specific skills would solve problems in the new department. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal request, though the structure could be more persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each addressing a specific part of the prompt. There is a clear progression of ideas from your past experience to your future goals. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. You rely on basic transitions like 'As I am' and 'Overall'. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your sentences more fluidly, such as 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', or 'In light of this'. Additionally, some sentences are slightly disjointed, which affects the overall flow of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'cooperation', 'professional', and 'responsibilty'. However, there are several spelling errors ('collague', 'managment', 'apppreciate', 'experince', 'feets') and minor word choice issues, such as 'I am really appreciate' (should be 'I really appreciate') and 'perform it as a my job responsibilty'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and ensuring that your word forms (e.g., verbs vs. adjectives) are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a good start. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, such as 'I am writing to request you to change my department in same organization' (missing articles) and 'I have been working with your company from last 2 years' (preposition error). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to lower the score. To improve, focus on the correct use of articles (a/an/the), prepositions, and subject-verb agreement. Practicing complex sentence structures will also help you demonstrate better control over your grammar.
