Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear manager,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you that it has been two years since I started working in this company. There are a lot of new things that I learned during this time, such as managing time, giving a presentation without hesitation, data collection, marketing etcetra.

I believe that now I need to move to a marketing department. As you know my skills have been improved since I came here. I feel that too that I need a promotion now. Moreover, it will be profitable for the company as well. I can promote our brand to different levels in market and reach out to new clients. This could also help the company's economy to grow better.

Adding on, this company gave me the opportunity to embrace my hidden talent that I was not even aware of. You know that my speaking skills improved someh. I do not want to leave this company because I now I want to learn more about the new trends and facts that are going on. I want to help the company to grow and being a part

of this would be great for me.

I hope you understand my point. I will wait for your positive response.

Yours faithfully

Heena

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what you have learned, suggest how the company would benefit from your move, and explain your desire to stay. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention 'marketing' as a benefit, the explanation regarding the 'company's economy' is vague and lacks professional depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more specific and business-oriented. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though it occasionally slips into a slightly informal register.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your progression. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'Adding on' to link ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is slightly abrupt, and the final sentence of the third paragraph is incomplete ('being a part of this would be great for me'), which disrupts the flow. The use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical rather than natural. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring all sentences are complete will enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'career development', 'promotion', and 'opportunity'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'etcetra' (spelling), 'someh' (likely a typo for 'somehow'), and 'economy' when 'financial performance' or 'growth' would be more accurate in a business context. The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your message, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Focus on using more professional collocations and checking your spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'I feel that too that I need a promotion' is awkward, and 'I now I want to learn' contains a repetition error. There are also issues with article usage and sentence fragments. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your intent, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. You should focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately.
