Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear manager,
I am writing to express my interest in moving to a different department within the organization as I think that it would be a great opportunity for career. Having worked in the organization for two years I believe that I am ready to broaden my experience.
During my time in the current position I learned some valuable skills like effective communication, team work, problem-solving and time management. Moreover, I know how to handle customers under difficult situations. Therefore, it is the best time take on new responsibilities.
I believe the transferring me to a new department would benefit me as well as the company as I could bring the fresh perspective to the team. Apart from this, it would give me a chance to apply my skills and knowledge to a new department.
Although, I am interested in new role but I don't have any intention to leave the company because I greatly value the opportunities, support work environment here.
I would be grateful if you consider my request.
Yours Sincerely,
Kashish

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what you have learned, explain the benefits to the company, and provide a valid reason for wanting to stay. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are more fully developed. For instance, when mentioning 'fresh perspective,' you could briefly explain how your specific skills from the current department would translate to the new one. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'Apart from this,' and 'Although' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your transition words and ensure that the progression between sentences feels more natural. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose of each section is clear to the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'career development,' 'broaden my experience,' and 'fresh perspective.' There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'support work environment' (should be 'supportive work environment') and 'the transferring me' (should be 'transferring me'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the more sophisticated or precise collocations that would be expected at a higher band level. Focusing on natural word combinations will help improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'it is the best time take on' (missing 'to'), 'the transferring me' (incorrect article usage), and 'Although, I am interested in new role but' (incorrect use of 'although' with 'but'). These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to sentence structure, specifically the correct use of conjunctions and articles.
