Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Manager,
I hope you are doing well. I want to talk about my last two years experience with company, it was my great luck for having job in this company and i will not change it in any condition in the future. Now, i feel like that i should have to shift to other department for my personal and carrier growth. i learned many things in my present job to follow company rules, always being consistent and respect our colleagues. I want to move to other department because i wish to learn more new things and i promise that this will be beneficial for the company. i will learn more new things then i have experience of two departments. i do not want to change this company for upgrading my role because i know all the things about company and even staff are more friendly and welcoming. I hope you understands my point and i shall be thankful to you.
warm regards,
Prabh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You mention what you have learned, suggest how the company benefits from your move, and explain your loyalty to the firm. However, the development of these ideas is quite basic. For instance, the explanation of how the company benefits is repetitive and lacks specific detail, stating only that you will have 'experience of two departments' without explaining how that adds value to the business. To improve, you should provide more concrete examples of how your current skills could be applied to a new role to help the company achieve its goals.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter is presented as a single block of text, which lacks the appropriate paragraph structure expected in a formal letter. While there is a logical progression from the introduction to the request and the closing, the lack of paragraphing makes the text feel cluttered. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often repetitive (e.g., 'I learned many things', 'I want to move', 'I will learn more new things'). Using a wider variety of linking words and separating your ideas into distinct paragraphs would significantly improve the flow and readability of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is functional but limited. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'learn more new things' and 'change this company'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'it was my great luck for having job'. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary related to professional development and workplace dynamics. Using more precise terms like 'professional growth', 'transferable skills', or 'contribute to the team's objectives' would show a better command of the language suitable for a formal business context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('I hope you understands'), article usage ('having job'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, such as 'I want to talk about my last two years experience with company, it was my great luck...'. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the text from reaching a higher band. You should focus on mastering basic sentence structure and ensuring that your verbs and pronouns are used correctly.
