Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Manager,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter with regard to my plan about moving from my department to a another department in our company for my career growth.
Its been two years, I had joined this company as a Graphic Designer, through this company and working on client projects, I learnt so many things including motion graphics and video editing. It also helped me to develop communication skills while discussing about the projects and talking with the customers.
As of now, I would like to move to Motion Design department, now I am more familiar with animation, and I know more advanced software than motion graphic team currently doing. so if I work there, it would be beneficial for our company to get clients and will get more profit.
I do not wish to leave this company, because I started my career here and learnt so many things from basics to advanced , I am really grateful for this company so i want to work here and like to move the company to the next stage.
Looking forward for your response, thankyou.
Yours Respectfully
Sathya

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what you have learned, explain the benefits of your transfer to the company, and provide reasons for wanting to stay. The tone is appropriate for a formal request to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of how the company would benefit from your move is a bit vague; providing a more specific example of a project or a particular skill set you could apply in the Motion Design department would have strengthened the argument and moved this into a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on one of the bullet points, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. You rely heavily on simple conjunctions like 'and' or 'so'. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in addition to this' to connect your ideas more fluidly. Paragraphing is present, but the transitions between sentences could be smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'career growth', 'client projects', and 'motion graphics'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'move the company to the next stage' (which sounds slightly unnatural) and 'talking with the customers' (a bit informal). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Expanding your repertoire to include more professional collocations related to workplace development would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, 'Its been two years, I had joined...' is a comma splice and contains a tense error. There are also issues with articles ('to a another department') and subject-verb agreement. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. Focusing on sentence boundaries and ensuring consistent verb tenses will help improve your accuracy.
