Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear sir,
I am writing this letter in regard to request about my job position.
I am Ashraf shaikh. I have been working this job in this company since last 2 years in cleaning department as a supervisor. when I joined this company that time, I am not that much good in supervision. But after some time, I got good knowledge for this work. I learn how to supervise and how to deal with any problem. And now I want to move on Catrine as it can be seen that nowadays Caterine needs good supervisor because food is not good and I think I do my best.
This company is my first workplace, and allover staff are very good and everyone have good behavior. So that is the big reason I do not want to leave this company. Thank you
Yours faithfully,
Ashraf shaikh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points, but the development is insufficient. While you mention what you learned (supervision and problem-solving) and why you want to stay, the explanation of how the company would benefit from your move is weak and lacks professional justification. Furthermore, the response is under the 150-word minimum, which significantly impacts the score as the task is not fully completed. To improve, you should expand on your professional achievements and provide a more persuasive argument regarding the value you would bring to the catering department.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is organized into short paragraphs, which is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed due to the lack of cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are often missing or repetitive (e.g., 'And now', 'So that is'). The use of paragraphing is present, but the overall flow is basic. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in addition to this'.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic structures. Phrases like 'not that much good' and 'everyone have good behavior' are informal and imprecise. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'move on Catrine' instead of 'transfer to the catering department'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex professional ideas effectively. You should focus on learning more formal, topic-specific collocations related to career development and workplace environments to improve your precision and range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement ('everyone have'), tense usage ('I learn' instead of 'I have learned'), and sentence structure ('I am writing this letter in regard to request'). The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the text from reaching a higher band. You should practice using more complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses and conditional sentences, while focusing on accurate verb tenses.
