Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear manager,

I am writing to request you that I have been working on the same position since 2 years and I am willing to move from quality control section to quality assurance department in this company for my better career. I have gained knowledge about the writing the test reports and how to match them with the standard reports.

My interest is to assure the quality of the product produced from the company. If you could provide this opportunity to me, I would be able to learn more about the QA sector, as it related to my education. As a result, the company would get some benefits from my professional skills such as hoe to make more profits and refining results accurately.

As the company already provides me numerous benefits such as dental care and health care, I do not want to send resignation letter.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Ashutosh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what you have learned in your current role, explain the benefits of your transfer to the company, and express your desire to remain with the firm. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how the company would benefit from your move is quite vague, mentioning 'how to make more profits' without specific context. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed examples of how your skills would specifically translate to the new department's goals. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, though it could be more professional.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on one of the required points. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'As a result' and 'If you could', which help the reader follow your argument. However, the transition between ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the overall flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words. The opening and closing are standard for a formal letter, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be more cohesive to better connect your current experience with your future potential in the new department.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your request clearly. You use some relevant industry-related terms like 'quality control' and 'quality assurance'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'request you that I have been working' and 'hoe to make more profits' (a likely typo for 'how'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise professional collocations and avoid repetitive structures. Expanding your range of synonyms for common words like 'benefits' or 'learn' would also help demonstrate a higher level of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'working on the same position since 2 years' should be 'working in the same position for two years'. Additionally, 'as it related to my education' should be 'as it relates to my education'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To achieve a higher score, focus on consistent verb tense usage and correct prepositional phrases.
