Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to request a transfer in a different department in a same company as I felt it is crucial for my career development. I have been working as Quality Assurance Technician (QA) for the past 3 years and now want to start my career as Scientist-I. I have leant many professional skills like quality checking, documentations, and different procedures to run machines and personal skills like teamwork, communication and problem solving.
I have applied for the position as I saw an opening for the position on the company's website. The company would get a senior and trusted employee who is totally committed towards his work. In addition, I familiar with that department, so it would be convenient for the company and myself.
Most important thing is the growth which would be higher if I would work here rather than anywhere else and the vision of the company which is similar to mine that is why I do not want to leave this institute.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Jay

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what you have learned in your current role, explain the benefits to the company of your transfer, and provide reasons for wanting to stay within the organization. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. To improve, ensure that your explanation of the benefits to the company is more specific; for example, you could mention how your existing knowledge of company protocols would reduce the training time required for the new role. Overall, the response is well-focused and addresses the task requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on one of the bullet points. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In addition' and 'Most important thing', to link your ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that transitions between sentences are smoother. For instance, the transition to the final paragraph is a bit abrupt. Overall, the structure is clear and serves the purpose of the letter well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'professional skills', 'committed', and 'career development'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'transfer in a different department' (should be 'to') and 'in a same company' (should be 'the same'). Additionally, 'leant' is a spelling error for 'learned'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise professional terminology and ensure that your prepositions and articles are used correctly to enhance the naturalness of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('in a same company') and verb forms ('I familiar with that department' is missing a verb). There are also some issues with sentence construction, such as the run-on sentence in the third paragraph. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
