Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Manager,
I am writing to express my interest to change my job from my current position as a sample preparation technician to research and development lab technician.
While working from past two years at this position, I highly valued the experience and technical skills I got from this job. My current duties include pipetting samples, sample solution and making autosamplers for ICP-MS instruments.
However, I would like to move in research and development lab, as this department 's duties are more closely inclined with my long term goal which is working as a chemist. This new job would allow me to work with professional chemists and take part in wide range of experiment which will broaden my knowledge. Additionally, my education and experience make my a perfect fit for this job.
I was waiting for this opportunity from very long and I was applying for different lab companies but I always enjoyed working in this company so I do not want to leave this company. Now, this position is open in my current company, it would be highly appreciated if I could get this job. My education and experience make me a perfect fit for this job.
Yours sincerely,
Veerpal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what you have learned in your current role, explain the benefits of your transfer to the company, and express your commitment to the organization. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the explanation of how the company would benefit could be more specific regarding how your current skills would translate to the new department. Overall, the response is relevant and covers all requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Additionally', and 'Now', which help the flow of information. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is slightly abrupt, and the repetition of the sentence 'My education and experience make me a perfect fit for this job' at the end of the letter is unnecessary and disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using industry-specific terms like 'pipetting' and 'ICP-MS instruments'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'inclined with' (should be 'aligned with') and 'making autosamplers' (which is slightly imprecise). You also repeat the phrase 'perfect fit' twice in the final paragraph, which limits the lexical variety. To reach a higher band, try to use more precise synonyms and avoid repeating phrases within the same section.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'working from past two years' (should be 'working for the past two years'), 'make my a perfect fit' (should be 'make me'), and 'I was waiting for this opportunity from very long' (should be 'for a very long time'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on preposition usage and verb tense consistency, particularly when discussing duration of time.
