Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Manager,
I am writing to express my interest in different department within the company, as i believe this could be an important step in my career development after two years in my current role.
During my time in current department, I have gained valuable experience regarding customer service, resolving problems efficiently and working collaboratively with colleagues. I have also developed strong organisational and communication skills, while develop how to prioritise competing responsibilities and perform effectively under pressure. Most importantly, this position has given me the knowledge about company's operations and its commitment to provide high-quality service.
I believe that moving to different department would be mutually beneficial. Having already aquired a sound knowledge about our procedure, customers and workplace culture, I would require considerably less training than external candidate. In addition, I could bring my existing skills and experience to a new team while gaining experience in another area of business. This would enable me to contribute more broadly to the company and potentially take greater responsibility in future.
I would, however, like to emphasize that I have no intention to leave the company. I have greatly valued the supporting working environment, opportunities for professional growth and positive relationship i have developed with my colleagues. I am keen to continue building my career here and believe that an internal transfer would allow me to do so while remaining committed to the organisation. I would be greatful if you consider my request.
Yours sincerely,
Komal Solanki

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly outlined your current experience, explained the mutual benefits of a transfer, and provided a strong justification for staying within the company. The tone is professional and appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are well-developed and logically presented, ensuring the reader understands your motivations and the value you bring. To reach a higher band, ensure that all minor grammatical slips do not distract from the clarity of your professional intent.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter follows a logical progression, with each paragraph serving a distinct purpose. You use cohesive devices such as 'During my time', 'In addition', and 'I would, however, like to emphasize' effectively to link your ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate your experience, the benefits of the move, and your commitment to the company. The flow of information is smooth, and the relationship between sentences is clear throughout the text, making it easy for the reader to follow your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for a professional context, such as 'collaboratively', 'competing responsibilities', and 'mutually beneficial'. There are a few minor spelling errors, such as 'aquired' (acquired) and 'greatful' (grateful), and some missing articles, such as 'in different department' instead of 'in a different department'. Despite these minor slips, your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning with precision and style. Increasing your attention to small spelling details and article usage will help elevate your score further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. There are some recurring minor errors, such as the omission of articles ('in different department', 'to external candidate') and occasional capitalization issues (e.g., 'i' instead of 'I'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication or cause confusion. The majority of your sentences are clear and well-constructed. To improve, focus on proofreading for small grammatical articles and consistent capitalization, as these are the primary areas where accuracy is currently slightly compromised.
