Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear manager,
I hope everything is going well. The reason for this email is to ask you if there is any chance that I could change the department in the company. As I am working in this position of Chemical Technician from last two years, I would now like to move forward to the Lab technician role.
I have been working in the department where we do all the chemical sorting, processing and sampling. Moreover, I have gain all the experience needed for a Lab Technician since we co-ordinate while working as a part of our jobs. Fortunately, I have also achieved certificates which would make me eligible to apply lab jobs. I have seen several job postings in the lab department, and I think I would be a better fit for the position as I also have experience in this company. It is a great opportunity for me as I have chemistry background and it would open various doors for my career.
Furthermore, I have make good relations with my co-workers and the people in the company are really friendly and helpful. Therefore, I do not prefer to leave this company. I highly appreciate your assistance and help regarding this matter.
yours truly,
Utsav

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly stated your current role and what you have learned, explained the benefits to the company of your transfer, and provided reasons for wanting to stay within the organization. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, when mentioning the benefits to the company, you could be more specific about how your existing knowledge of the current department would streamline operations in the lab. Overall, the response is well-focused and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the request to the justification and finally to the closing. You have used some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Fortunately', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, the paragraphing is slightly underdeveloped; the second paragraph is quite long and contains several distinct ideas that could be split for better readability. Additionally, some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Improving the flow between sentences by using a wider variety of linking phrases would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'career development', 'co-ordinate', and 'eligible'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'gain all the experience' (should be 'gained') and 'apply lab jobs' (should be 'apply for lab jobs'). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Incorporating more sophisticated collocations and ensuring accurate word forms would significantly improve your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'from last two years' (should be 'for the last two years'), 'I have make' (should be 'I have made'), and 'do not prefer to leave' (a slightly unnatural phrasing; 'do not wish to leave' is better). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
