Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Jhon
I am writing to request for transfer to an another department in our company. I believe that it would be beneficial for my career growth.
I learned many things in last two years such as effectively communication, managing data, and cooperating with customers. I also learned about a team-work and problem-solving skills which are essential for my career development.
I think our company would get benefit if i get chance to move another department because of my dedication and hard-working towards the company. I have also good customer's reviews and excellent attendance history. In addition, I would also like to learn different kind of works which I could apply this knowledge in the future.
I do not wish to leave this company because it gave me opportunities to build my career and it helped me learned different kinds of skills. I want to stay here for many more years in the company and take a part in company's development.
Thank you for your time and understanding.
Yours Sincerely,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what you have learned, explain the benefits of a transfer, and express your commitment to the company. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, when discussing the benefits to the company, you mention 'dedication' and 'hard-working' but do not provide specific examples of how your skills would translate to a new department. To reach a higher band, try to elaborate more on how your specific experience would add value in a new role.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a polite closing. Each paragraph focuses on a single theme, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'In addition' and 'because of'. However, the flow between sentences can feel a bit mechanical at times. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the transition between your current skills and your future potential is smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'career development', 'dedication', and 'attendance history'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing or minor errors, such as 'effectively communication' (should be 'effective communication') and 'get benefit' (should be 'benefit'). You also use 'different kind of works', which is grammatically incorrect; 'different types of work' or 'a different area of work' would be more natural. Expanding your range of collocations and refining your word choice will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that slightly distract the reader. Examples include 'request for transfer to an another department' (should be 'a transfer to another department'), 'learned about a team-work' (should be 'learned about teamwork'), and 'hard-working towards the company' (should be 'hard work for the company'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur consistently throughout the text. Focusing on article usage (a/an/the) and verb forms after 'to' or 'help' will significantly improve your accuracy.
