Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear manager,
I am writing this letter to show my interest in available internal quality technician position.
I would like to thankyou for all the guidance and support that you have provided me since I joined as machine operator. This position not only helped me to understand production needs and team work but also maintain the quality standards at Emmerson packaging. Moreover, I got chance to serve as backup supervisor during my tenure which helped me to develop knowledge about quality systems such as, SAP and QMS. In addition, I also learn to make decision related quality issues as well as got chance to be a part of a root cause analysis.
Lastly, as I am already familiar with company's standards and have required qualifications for the quality technician role it will be smooth transition in terms of training and upholding the standards.
On the other hand, while I do have offer from other company but I do not wish to leave because during my journey I have made lots of connections and the working environment and support which I get from management has been incriediable.
Yours sincerely
Deep Ukani

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly outlined what you learned as a machine operator, explained the benefits to the company regarding your transition to a quality technician role, and provided a valid reason for staying with the firm. The tone is appropriate for a professional letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, when mentioning the benefits to the company, you could elaborate on how your existing knowledge of the production line specifically aids the quality department's efficiency.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from your current experience to your future goals and your commitment to the company. Paragraphing is used to separate these distinct ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'On the other hand' to link your points. However, the flow is occasionally slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your transition words and ensure that the connection between sentences is smoother, particularly in the second paragraph where several short sentences could be combined for better flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using industry-specific terms like 'root cause analysis', 'quality systems', and 'production needs'. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'thankyou' (thank you), 'incriediable' (incredible), and 'learn' (learned). While these do not impede communication, they prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure your spelling is accurate, as these small slips detract from the professional tone of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the' available position, 'the' company's standards) and tense inconsistencies ('I also learn' instead of 'I also learned'). Additionally, some punctuation is missing, such as a comma after 'SAP'. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help you achieve a higher band.
