Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Matthew,
I hope you're doing well. I have been working in this company for past 4 years, and currently I'm in afternoon shift at Supervisor position. I would like to request you, if you can shift me in morning shift in management team at position of Operation Manager.
I have learned so many things while working in this company such as how to remain calm in stressful situation, implement strategies in an effective manner, and enhance productivity. Apart from this, the main thing I've learned is customer service, what are the ways to provide them satisfaction and resolve their complaints at utmost priority.
Recently, I have finished my part time classes in Business management, and I came to know about numerous concepts, which can be applied in our company as well to improve the productivity, minimize cost, and target the required area in the market to increase profit. I believe, this would certainly help in improving the overall operations of our company.
I was a fresher, when I got the opportunity to work in this company and I've learned all these work's ethics, and codes of conduct while working here. Therefore I would like to use my all gained knowledge solely in this company.
I look forward to hear from you soon with a positive response.
Yours sincerely,
Amandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly state what you have learned, explain the benefits of your transfer to the company, and provide a valid reason for wanting to stay. The tone is appropriate for a professional request. However, the development of ideas could be slightly more sophisticated; for instance, the connection between your specific business management concepts and the new department's operations could be more explicitly detailed to strengthen your argument. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices like 'Apart from this' and 'Therefore' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally slightly mechanical. To reach a higher band, you could use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'this' or 'these') always points clearly to the preceding noun phrase to improve the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'customer service', 'productivity', and 'codes of conduct'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'shift me in' (should be 'transfer me to') and 'work's ethics' (should be 'work ethics'). While you successfully convey your meaning, the vocabulary is somewhat functional rather than sophisticated. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and professional terminology relevant to business management to enhance the overall tone of the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'in afternoon shift' (missing article 'the'), 'at position of' (missing article 'the'), and 'I look forward to hear' (should be 'hearing'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, focus on consistent use of articles and correct verb patterns (e.g., 'look forward to' + gerund). Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures would also help demonstrate better control.
