Student answer (Band 6.0)

Hi Mr. Smith,

I hope you are doing well, I am writing this letter to inform you that I am greatful to work with you for the past 2 years of working in Logitist Tech. Since, I start to work with you, it improves my skills in my field such as website development and design, database analyst, quality assurance to make sure the system is in the right condition, and technical support, by helping colleagues and customers in there technical skills problem.

However, working with this field in certain time, it makes me feel stagnant and needs for improvement. Even though I enjoy working with you. I felt that working with the billing department will provide me more growth by understanding more about the company's source of income. I know that if I move in billing department I can provide my experience in my current job to improve the system of how to make the flow more accurate and consistent data base on the current government data.

Since I working with Logitech about 2 years, I realize that I love the company's environment and policies, because of this, it makes me want to stay and wants to improve the business income. I know that it is going to be a big change but I can make sure before I will move I will provide and help the replacement a detailed document of my work.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I hope you would give a chance to accept my offer and recommendation.

Best Regards,

Vincent Elipe

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what you have learned in your current role, explain the benefits of your transfer to the billing department, and provide a valid reason for wanting to remain with the company. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, some ideas, such as the specific benefit of your transfer to the company, are slightly underdeveloped and could benefit from more precise professional language to sound more persuasive. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' and 'Since', to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and minor errors in referencing, such as 'Since I working with Logitech'. The transition between the current role and the proposed move could be smoother. While the overall progression is clear, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, covering professional topics like 'career development', 'quality assurance', and 'technical support'. There are some instances of word-choice errors, such as 'stagnant and needs for improvement' (should be 'need') and 'there technical skills problem' (should be 'their'). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, there is a lack of more sophisticated or precise collocations that would elevate the response. The errors do not impede communication, but they are noticeable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'Since, I start to work' (should be 'Since I started working'), 'working with this field in certain time' (should be 'in this field for some time'), and 'I realize that I love' (should be 'I have realized'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors rarely impede the reader's understanding, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focusing on verb tenses and subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your accuracy.
