Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am working for your esteemed organization from the past two years with the phenomenal record of increasing the productivity with the same asset by deploying modern quality tools. I have learned both the working with the team and working alone; working under intense pressure and tight deadlines, which improved my skill set and my personality. But, now I wish to work in the Geo-tech department.
There are many benefits which this company can have by transferring me to Geo-tech department such as my prior education which helps in quick learning, understanding and then improving the productivity in this department. Moreover, the skill that I acquire in my current department to work with the team or by myself will elevate the volume of work in any scenario.
This organization builds not only my career but my identity. That is why, I decided to work in this organization horizontally in other department and climb the career ladder more holistically.
Thank you for understanding.
Yours sincerely,
Mike

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what you have learned, explain the benefits of your transfer, and express your commitment to the company. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention your 'prior education' as a benefit to the Geo-tech department, you do not specify what that education is or how it specifically relates to the new role. To reach a higher band, provide more concrete examples of your skills and specific reasons why the company would benefit from your move. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on one of the required points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'That is why' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'I am working for your esteemed organization from the past two years'. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The use of paragraphing is sufficient, but the internal cohesion within sentences could be improved to ensure a more natural progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'esteemed organization', 'productivity', and 'holistically'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'working for... from the past two years' should be 'have been working... for the past two years'. Additionally, 'the same asset' is an unnatural way to refer to company resources. While you attempt some less common vocabulary, the errors in collocation occasionally draw attention to the language rather than the message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I have learned both the working with the team and working alone'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and prepositions. For example, 'I am working... from the past two years' is incorrect; it should be the present perfect continuous. There are also issues with article usage, such as 'in other department' instead of 'in another department'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of the writing.
