Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Manager,
Through this letter I wanted to share my experience working as a part of your team.
It's been two years since I have joined this company and your team. I really appreciate all the skills and knowledge that I have gained during this tenure.
Movingahead, I now feel like my growth has been limited from past couple of months. I feel like I have already learned enough in my current role. I now feel it is important for my career development to explore something different in order to enhance new skills and learning. Recently, there is an opening with Business Intellegence team. I looking forward to join that team as it will really help me to develope my analytics skills. As you were aware my background and my education matches with the role. which will help me excel in this role.
I am confident that, I will do best in case I get selected for that role. As I am already part of this company and already well aware of company's culture, technical aspects and dynamics, this will really help me to settle down with the new role easily.
Similarly, company's resources will saved as they don't have to haunt for a new employee outside.
Once again, I appreciate your all the support and guidance that you have provided me since day one.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Navdeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly stated what you learned in your current role, explained the benefits to the company of your transfer, and provided reasons for wanting to stay within the organization. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas could be more sophisticated. For instance, while you mention the Business Intelligence team, you could have elaborated more on how your specific current skills would translate to that department to make a more persuasive case. Overall, the response is relevant and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moving ahead' and 'Similarly', to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between discussing your interest in the new role and your qualifications is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'tenure', 'dynamics', and 'career development'. However, there are some spelling errors, such as 'Intellegence' instead of 'Intelligence', and minor word choice issues, such as 'haunt' instead of 'hunt' or 'recruit'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure accurate spelling of professional terminology. Your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I looking forward' (missing auxiliary verb), 'company's resources will saved' (missing 'be'), and 'As you were aware' (should be 'As you are aware'). Additionally, there are some punctuation issues, such as the sentence fragment 'which will help me excel in this role.' While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice constructions.
