Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Momina,

I hope you will be fine. Today i am writing this letter to you regarding shifting me from my cureent employment role to different for my career development, which i think is the best time to move as company have vaccancy for HR manager and i am working with your company from last two years.

I have learnt so many things as a company's HR coordinator how to arrange staff, set timetables and make schedule along with arranging all meetings regarding the job interviews while helping the HR manager.

I suppose that comapny will have benefit to shift my role from HR coordinator to HR manager as they would not have short list the candidates for this job position , in addition to this, i understand the company's policies and targets more effectively . As a result ,company would not need to provide a training .

I wish to work with this comapny for longer as this place give me opportunity to fulfill my dream career and i learnt so much here , so i want to profit it as much i can give. Secondly, i prefer to connect with some friends as colleques in the company. I hope you consider my offer and will give me chance to work this company in future for long.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The candidate has successfully addressed all parts of the prompt. In the first and second paragraphs, the letter outlines what has been learned in the present job, mentioning specific tasks such as arranging staff, setting timetables, and scheduling job interviews. The response then suggests how the company would benefit from moving the writer to the HR manager position, highlighting that they already understand company policies and targets, which eliminates the need for further training. Furthermore, the writer explains why they do not wish to leave the company, citing career fulfilment and personal connections with colleagues. The tone is appropriate for a workplace communication, and all bullet points are covered adequately. Therefore, this performance aligns well with the Band 7 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter exhibits a clear overall structure, opening with a standard salutation and ending with a polite sign-off. Ideas are logically grouped into paragraphs covering specific bullet points from the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'in addition to this', 'As a result', and 'Secondly' are employed to guide the reader through the text, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical or are impacted by punctuation errors. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct points, such as the learning outcomes, company benefits, and reasons for staying. While the progression is mostly clear, occasional lapses in referencing and punctuation slightly disrupt the flow, placing it firmly at Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a workplace letter, including terms like 'career development', 'employment role', 'policies and targets', and 'HR coordinator'. However, there are notable limitations and word-choice errors, such as using 'shifting me' instead of transferring me, 'vaccancy' instead of vacancy, and awkward phrasings like 'want to profit it as much i can give'. Spelling errors are present ('cureent', 'comapny', 'colleques'), and while these do not heavily impede communication, they reflect a lack of precision. The lexical control is generally sufficient for the task, but frequent minor inaccuracies keep the score at Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'Today i am writing this letter to you regarding shifting me...' and 'As a result ,company would not need to provide a training.' There are several grammatical inaccuracies and punctuation issues, including lowercase 'i', missing articles ('a training', 'the company'), and comma splices ('...so i want to profit it...'). Complex structures are sometimes faulty or awkwardly constructed. Despite these frequent errors, the meaning is generally clear and does not impede overall comprehension. This balance of mixed structures and persistent errors corresponds to a Band 5.5 performance.
