Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The candidate has successfully addressed all parts of the prompt. The letter clearly states what the writer has learned in their present job, mentioning the acquisition of knowledge, practical skills, and enhanced confidence over two years. Furthermore, suggestions on how the company would benefit from the transfer are provided, such as boosting sales and productivity through customer service expertise. Finally, the letter effectively explains the reasons for wishing to remain within the same company, highlighting the strong employee support and guidance from senior staff. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter to a manager. Ideas are relevant and sufficiently extended, fulfilling all the requirements of a General Training Task 1 response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally clear in its logical organisation and progression. The response is divided into distinct paragraphs that correspond to the bullet points in the prompt, making the structure easy to follow. However, there are some issues with cohesive devices and referencing. For instance, phrases like 'The another deparment' and awkward transitional openings show mechanical cohesion in places. Paragraphing is used adequately to separate ideas, but smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the coherence of the text. Overall, the arrangement of information is clear and coherent.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'productivity', 'international regions', and 'anticipation'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'deparment', 'benefical', 'allots', 'knowlegde', and 'busniess'. Collocations are also occasionally unnatural, such as 'fully rely on' instead of 'rely heavily on'. While these lexical inaccuracies do not impede communication and the meaning remains clear, they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.5 or 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The candidate demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and relative clauses (e.g., 'If i moved to the another department , i will be more activate...'). However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors, including incorrect verb tenses ('have gain', 'i moved', 'will be more activate'), missing articles, and misuse of capitalisation and commas. Errors such as 'activatel' (for active) and fragmented phrasing occasionally create minor hurdles for the reader, though they do not completely impede overall understanding. Control of grammar requires closer attention.
