Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear kieath,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter regarding to change to department where I am working from last two years. I believe this would be better for my carrer development.
Currently I am working in production department where I hacve learned how to run the machine, insert the coil, fix some errors and checked the quality also before delivering to the customers.
However, now I want to move into the quality department and I believe it is not only beneficial for my carrer growth, but also helps the company in future as I already have enough experience of quality checking while working in the production department. In additionaly, moving me into the quality department saves the cost and time to give the training of new employee.
I do not want to leave this company because I like the work environment and all of the workers and mangers are very friendly and helpful in nature.
Please let me know if it would be possible to change my department. I look forward to your response.
Kind regards,
Monu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The candidate has successfully covered all three bullet points required by the task prompt. In the second paragraph, the writer explains what has been learned in their present job in the production department, such as running machines and checking quality. In the third paragraph, suggestions are made on how the company would benefit, specifically by saving time and training costs since the writer already has quality-checking experience. In the fourth paragraph, the reason for not wishing to leave the company is clearly stated, highlighting a positive work environment and friendly colleagues. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a manager. Although there are some minor linguistic errors, all parts of the task are adequately addressed and well-developed, earning a solid band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, body paragraphs addressing specific points, and an appropriate closing. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate different ideas, such as current experience, company benefits, and reasons for staying. Cohesive devices are employed, although some are mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as 'In additionaly' instead of 'Additionally'. Referencing throughout the letter is mostly clear, allowing the reader to follow the writer's intentions without significant confusion. The progression of ideas is coherent overall, matching the expectations of the band 6 descriptor.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating everyday work-related concepts. The candidate attempts some less common vocabulary and industry-specific terms, such as 'production department', 'quality checking', and 'carrer development' (spelled 'carrer'). However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('hacve', 'carrer', 'additionaly') and minor word choice inaccuracies. Despite these flaws, the range is sufficient to convey the intended message clearly without impeding overall communication, placing the response firmly at band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I believe this would be better for my carrer development' and 'moving me into the quality department saves the cost and time to give the training of new employee.' There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, including 'regarding to change to department where I am working from last two years', preposition misuse, and article omissions. However, these errors rarely impede communication and the basic meaning remains clear throughout. The control of grammar is consistent with a band 6.0 performance.
