Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir ,
Hereby, I am writing this letter to talk about for my career development . I am with this company from last two years . I joined this company as a processing technician in which I have to take care of two different area ( mixing of doughs according to the recipe , and baking them in the oven). Now I am expert in handling these task without any problems.
I want to move in the packaging department as I already have 5 years of experience in that department from different company . Our company recently install semi automatic robot for packaging the goods in which I have relevant study and experience . I can train the new operators rather than paying outsider to give them training which directly cost efficiently for our company.
According to my opinion this idea is benefiical for the company as well as for mine carrier development. This is my dream company and I want to be a schedule manager. For that I need to learn everything about different departments to achieve my goal.
I hope you accept my proposal .
Thank you
your sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all the required bullet points of the prompt. The writer explains what has been learned in their present job by detailing their role as a processing technician taking care of mixing doughs and baking. They suggest how the company would benefit by highlighting their prior packaging experience, the newly installed semi-automatic robot, and how they can save training costs by teaching new operators themselves. Finally, the writer explains why they do not wish to leave the company, expressing a strong desire to stay with their dream company and advance toward becoming a schedule manager. The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are extended and supported appropriately, earning a band score of 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally coherent and follows a logical organizational structure appropriate for a workplace request. The writer uses basic paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, the request for a department change along with benefits, and the future career goals. However, the progression is occasionally disrupted by awkward transitions and minor cohesion issues, such as abrupt shifts between sentences. Referencing is mostly clear, though cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or overused, such as starting multiple sentences in a similar manner. Overall, the organizational structure is adequate and warrants a band score of 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating work-related terminology such as 'processing technician', 'packaging department', and 'semi-automatic robot'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'talk about for my career development' instead of 'discuss my career development', 'from last two years' instead of 'for the past two years', and 'directly cost efficiently' instead of 'directly cost-effective'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but vocabulary limitations and awkward phrasings restrict the score to a 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar with clauses like 'as I already have 5 years of experience' and 'which directly cost efficiently'. However, frequent grammatical errors occur throughout the text, including tense inconsistencies ('recently install' instead of 'recently installed'), article misuse ('in which I have to take care of two different area'), and preposition errors ('move in the packaging department'). Punctuation is also flawed, particularly with spacing around commas and formal sign-offs. These errors occasionally cause slight difficulty, supporting a band score of 5.5.
