Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. They explain what was learned in their present job, mentioning acquiring advanced computer skills and improved communication abilities. They suggest how the company would benefit from a department transfer, specifically noting their familiarity with the products and potential to increase sales profit. Additionally, they explain their desire to stay with the company due to the marketing knowledge gained and strong bonds formed with colleagues. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a manager, and the purpose is clear throughout the response, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter exhibits a coherent overall arrangement, and the response is clearly divided into paragraphs corresponding to different ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. The candidate relies heavily on basic conjunctions and transitional phrases like 'To add more details' and 'not only this but'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as repetitive use of 'this company'. Paragraphing is present and helps structure the letter, but overall logical progression can feel slightly disjointed due to run-on sentences and punctuation issues, placing this criterion at Band 5.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but contains noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation. Examples include spelling 'company' as 'comapny', 'clue less' instead of 'clueless', and awkward phrasing like 'bring your attention regarding my posting' instead of 'draw your attention to my employment status'. The candidate attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'unbreakable bond' and 'advanced computer', but inaccuracies in form and collocation are frequent. Nevertheless, the meaning remains understandable throughout, justifying a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but punctuation and grammatical accuracy are weak. There are numerous run-on sentences joined improperly by commas, such as 'When i first joined this company i was clue less... but as our company held... i learned lot of new things, For instance i had basic knowledge...'. Capitalisation is frequently neglected for the pronoun 'i' and at the beginning of clauses. While some complex structures are attempted, frequent errors in tense consistency, articles, and sentence boundaries cause difficulty for the reader at times, aligning with a Band 5.0.
