Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Manager,
I hope you are doing well. The purpose of writing this email is to move to a different department for career growth in our company.
I am working as Supervisor about 2 years, since i started working here. I had never got a chance to move myself in a different department. I learned several skills from my current job like project management, communication, and time management skills. I am still enjoying my position although, i want to move to Human Resource department for my career development. I think i can grow myself and polish my skill in HR department. This encourges me a lot to learn more skills. Moreover, i can bring all skills for new role which learnt from my present positiuon. Therefore, i kindly request you to consider my application.
In addition, i like to work in our company and it gives me good enviornmnet and positive vibe

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The candidate addresses all parts of the prompt satisfactorily. They mention what has been learned in their present job, such as 'project management, communication, and time management skills', suggest company benefits like bringing acquired skills to a new role, and explain why they do not wish to leave by stating 'i like to work in our company and it gives me good enviornmnet'. However, the development of these points is rather basic and lacks depth. The letter format is somewhat compromised by the lack of proper paragraphing and an abrupt ending. Despite these minor structural limitations, all bullet points are covered, placing the performance at a solid Band 6.0 level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a basic level of organization, but cohesion is hindered by poor paragraphing. The entire body of the letter is compressed into a single, dense block of text following the salutation, which makes the progression of ideas feel somewhat mechanical and cluttered. Although basic cohesive devices are used (such as 'Moreover', 'Therefore', and 'In addition'), the overall structuring lacks the distinct paragraph breaks typically expected in a formal letter to a manager. Referencing is mostly clear, but the lack of visual separation between the introduction, body points, and conclusion lowers the score for logical flow and cohesion to Band 5.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms like 'career growth', 'project management', and 'career development'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'enviornmnet' (environment), 'positiuon' (position), and capitalization issues like 'Human Resource department' and 'i'. The vocabulary is generally repetitive, relying heavily on basic expressions with occasional attempts at less common phrasing. While communication is not impeded by these lexical slips, the frequency of basic mechanical errors restricts the score to Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I am working as Supervisor about 2 years, since i started working here.' There are several recurring grammatical errors, including missing articles ('as Supervisor', 'in HR department'), incorrect prepositions ('about 2 years'), and lowercase 'i' pronouns throughout the text. Complex structures are attempted but often contain minor inaccuracies, such as 'which learnt from my present positiuon'. Although these errors rarely impede overall communication, their frequency across a short text prevents the writing from reaching a higher band, resulting in a score of 5.5.
