Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Smith,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter regarding my interest in a different department in the company. I enjoyed working here, but I want to develop my skills by working in different sector.
As you know, I am working here from last two years and I have learned everything about sales, communication, upselling and other services. I saw one job posting on our company’s website and I am interested in working for corporate department which gives me more information and also helpful in developing my career as well. I know almost about every product and services that our company provides so it would be easy for me to work here in the same company. Also, I like the atmosphere and benefits that company provides to its employees.
I hope you will take my request into consideration and if you need any further information, feel free to contact me.
Thank you
Yours faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully covered all three bullet points required in the prompt. You mentioned what you have learned in your present job, stating that you have gained experience in sales, communication, and upselling over the last two years. You suggested how the company would benefit by explaining that because you already know almost about every product and service, it would be easy for you to work in the corporate department. Furthermore, you explained why you do not wish to leave the company by noting that you like the atmosphere and the benefits provided to employees. Your tone is generally appropriate for a semi-formal workplace letter, and the purpose is clear from the beginning. However, the development of your ideas could be slightly more extended to reach a higher band. Overall, all parts of the task are adequately addressed, earning a solid score for task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
Your letter has a clear overall arrangement and follows a logical structure typical of a request letter, beginning with a polite opening and stating your purpose. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'and', 'so', and 'Also' to connect your ideas. However, the paragraphing is somewhat weak, as the entire middle section is lumped into a single large paragraph containing multiple distinct ideas, which makes the progression slightly mechanical. To improve cohesion, you should break your thoughts down into more focused paragraphs separating your current experience from the company benefits and your specific request. Additionally, referencing could be managed more smoothly to avoid repetitive sentence openings like 'I am working here' and 'I know'. With better paragraph division and a wider variety of cohesive links, your writing would flow much more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, successfully using terms related to employment such as 'job posting', 'corporate department', 'career development', and 'employees'. There are some successful attempts at less common vocabulary. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors that prevent a higher score. For example, writing 'working here from last two years' is grammatically and lexically inaccurate, and 'different sector' should likely be 'different department' to maintain consistency with the prompt. You also repeat words such as 'company' and 'work' frequently throughout the short text. While your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your message clearly without causing confusion, refining your collocations and using a more varied range of synonyms would elevate your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
Your writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating basic control over sentence structure. You use subordinate clauses effectively in sentences like '...if you need any further information, feel free to contact me.' However, there are several grammatical errors scattered throughout the text. The most prominent error is the use of 'from last two years' instead of the correct present perfect continuous structure ('have been working here for the last two years'). There are also minor article issues, such as missing the article before 'corporate department'. While these errors do not impede communication and your meaning remains entirely clear to the reader, they occur frequently enough to place your grammar firmly in the band 6 category. Focusing on tense consistency and prepositions will help you produce more error-free sentences.
