Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear manager,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to let you know about my interest to work in a different department in our company.
I have been working for this company from last 2 years as a Techincal support assistant. Within these 2 years I have learnt lot about teamwork, how to work under pressure, work-life balance and many other things. I am greatful for everything that I learnt from my colleagues.
I recently saw an internal position for a web developer. I am very interested to work as a web developer for our company because, in my previous job I was working as a junior web developer. It would be benifical for our company if I get selected for this position because, you don't have to provide training at an initial stage because of my work experience. Moreover, I do know some colleagues who is working in a web development team, so they don't need to worry about co-ordination.
I do not want to leave this company, because I have learnt lot throughout these years. It feels like home whenever I am surrounded by my co-worker. I am very attached to this company, becuase they had trust in me, when I was looking for a job at an initial phase of my carrer.
Thank you for your time and understanding. Looking forward for you reply.
Kind regards,
Abhi Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You successfully address all the bullet points required in the prompt. You mention what you have learned in your present job, such as teamwork and working under pressure, and you explain why you do not wish to leave the company because you are attached to the workplace and its people. You also suggest how the company would benefit from moving you to a different department, noting your previous web development experience. While all parts are addressed, some ideas remain slightly under-developed; for instance, the benefits to the company could be expanded further with more specific details about how your current role ties into the new position. To reach a higher level, you should extend and fully support all your main ideas with deeper elaboration rather than moving quickly from one point to the next.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure that makes sense to the reader. You use appropriate paragraphing to separate different points, starting with an introduction, moving through your learning and your proposal for the internal position, and ending with your reasons for staying and a polite sign-off. However, cohesion is sometimes a bit mechanical, and referencing is not always completely clear. For example, the transitional phrases and the way sentences link together can feel slightly repetitive at times. To achieve a higher band, you would need to use cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that the transitions between your paragraphs and ideas flow naturally without relying on formulaic connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your message about changing departments. You attempt some less common vocabulary, such as 'internal position', 'work-life balance', and 'co-ordination'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors that appear throughout your writing, such as 'Techincal', 'greatful', 'benifical', and 'becuase'. Although these inaccuracies do not impede communication, they prevent you from reaching a higher band. To improve your lexical score, you need to use less common vocabulary with greater precision and eliminate basic spelling mistakes through careful proofreading before submitting your work.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a satisfactory mix of simple and complex sentence forms to communicate your thoughts, such as when you explain why you want to work as a web developer. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. For instance, you write 'from last 2 years' instead of 'for the last 2 years', and you make a subject-verb agreement error with 'colleagues who is working' instead of 'colleagues who are working'. Additionally, there are some unnecessary commas used within your sentences. To reach the next level, you should aim for a higher frequency of error-free sentences and demonstrate better control over prepositions and relative clause agreement.
