Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, earning a solid score in this area. You clearly state what you have learned during your two years in customer service, mentioning strong communication and problem-solving skills. Furthermore, you explain how the company would benefit from your move by highlighting your recent digital marketing course and your desire to improve social media rankings. Finally, you successfully explain your reasons for wanting to stay at the company, pointing to a great work environment and supportive senior staff. All three bullet points are fully covered, and your purpose for writing is clear from the beginning. To push further into higher bands, some of your supporting ideas could be extended with even greater detail regarding specific marketing campaigns or projects you hope to undertake.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your letter shows a clear overall arrangement and logical progression of ideas throughout. The response is divided into sensible paragraphs, with each paragraph addressing a distinct aspect of the prompt, such as your current role, your marketing proposal, and your reasons for staying. Cohesive devices are used adequately, moving from your present job into your recent course and future goals. However, referencing and cohesion occasionally feel a bit mechanical, particularly with transitions like 'As a result' and standard letter closings. To move up to a higher level of cohesion, you could use a wider range of referencing words and more subtle transitional phrases to link your paragraphs together more naturally without relying on formulaic connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using some less common items such as 'decision-making skills', 'problem-solving skills', and 'well-reputed college'. There are a few minor lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as writing 'in regards of' instead of 'in regard to' or 'regarding', and 'give a chance' instead of 'give me a chance'. However, these vocabulary and word-choice errors do not impede communication and remain fairly minor. To achieve a higher lexical score, you should aim to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and precise business terminology, while ensuring prepositions tied to specific phrases are used accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter contains a satisfactory mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating your ability to construct compound sentences and use relative clauses. You show good control over basic verb tenses when describing your two-year tenure and your recent completion of a course. There are some grammar and punctuation errors present, such as comma splices in sentences like 'Digital presence on popular websites is vital for big organizations these days, I want our company...' and minor subject-verb agreement slips, such as 'skills which has enhanced'. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout. To reach higher bands, you should focus on eliminating comma splices by using appropriate conjunctions or semicolons, and ensure strict accuracy with subject-verb agreement.
