Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to formally request a transfer from the Packing Department to Quality Assurance department, as I believe this move would contribute significantly to my professional development.

Having worked with a Packing Department for two years, I have aquired valuable skills, including time management, teamwork and the ability to perform efficiently under pressure. Furthermore, my experience has enable to develop a thorough understanding of company's products and operational procedures.

I believe these skills would be particularly beneficial in the Quality Assurance department. My familiarty with product specifications would allow me to identify defects promoty and help maintain company's high standards. Moreover, my attention to detail and problem solving abilities could contribute to reducing errors and improving overall efficiency.

Although I am eager to take on new responsibities, I have no intention to leaving this company. I genuienly appreciate the supportive work enviornment, opportunities for professional growth and strong relationships I have developed with my colleagues.

I would be grateful if you could consider my request, and I look forward to discussing this opportunity with you.

Yours sincerely,

Manni

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter clearly addresses all three points and maintains a suitable, respectful request throughout. You explain what you learned through “time management, teamwork” and working under pressure, then connect your product knowledge and attention to detail to identifying defects and reducing errors in Quality Assurance. You also give a clear reason for staying, mentioning the supportive environment, growth opportunities, and relationships with colleagues. These relevant details extend the main ideas and make the proposed transfer persuasive. To strengthen the response further, make the benefit to the company slightly more specific—for example, explain how your experience in Packing could help improve communication between the two departments. The purpose and position are already clear and consistently maintained.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5

The information is organised in a clear sequence: the request comes first, followed by your experience, the company’s potential benefit, your reason for staying, and a courteous closing. Each paragraph has a distinct purpose, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “Moreover,” and “Although” help show how the ideas relate. The progression is easy to follow and the letter format is appropriate. To make the cohesion more polished, vary the transitions rather than relying on several sentence-initial connectors, and ensure references are precise—for instance, connect your Packing experience explicitly to the work of Quality Assurance. Overall, the organisation is logical and the reader can follow the request without difficulty.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a suitable range of workplace vocabulary, including “professional development,” “operational procedures,” “product specifications,” and “overall efficiency.” These choices communicate the purpose clearly and show some awareness of formal register. However, several spelling errors and inaccurate word forms reduce the precision expected at this level: “aquired,” “familiarty,” “promoty,” “responsibities,” “genuienly,” and “enviornment.” There are also collocation or phrasing issues, such as “contribute to reducing errors,” which could be expressed more naturally as “help reduce errors.” Proofreading carefully and choosing precise, natural combinations would make the vocabulary more controlled and flexible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0

The response includes a useful mix of sentence forms, including complex clauses such as “Although I am eager to take on new responsibilities, I have no intention…” and “as I believe this move would contribute…”. Many sentences are grammatically clear, and punctuation generally supports the meaning. A few errors remain in grammatical patterns and articles: “my experience has enable to develop” needs a subject or object construction such as “has enabled me to develop”; “a Packing Department” should be “the Packing Department”; and “no intention to leaving” should be “no intention of leaving.” These do not prevent understanding, but checking verb forms, articles, and preposition patterns would improve accuracy while preserving your range of structures.
