Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir,

I am Kamal Prit Singh from production department as a team lead . I am writing this letter to request you to change my department to Quality Assurance.

I am working in this industry for more than two years. I grabed many things like how to peer the pressure situation and deadline for the materials. it's been a amazing jouney till now . currently I knew each section in and out throughly.

As I can apply my theoritical and practical skills for the Quality department. It not only enhanced my skills more but also, benefits for the company. Because by testing the material I can find the defects of material. Moreover the customer complained can also be checked and reduced the error.

I wanted to continue with this company Because this company have very friendly nature with the coworkers. The management are transparent.

Hoping you can accept this letter and promote me to different department.

Yours faithfully,

Kamal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you describe learning to handle pressure and deadlines, propose using your skills in Quality Assurance to identify defects and reduce customer complaints, and explain that you value the company’s colleagues and management. The purpose of the letter is clear from the opening request. However, some points are only briefly stated or unclear. For example, “I knew each section in and out” does not explain what specific knowledge you gained, and the benefits to the company would be more convincing with a clearer link between your production experience and improved quality outcomes. Develop these details and make the reason for staying more specific to strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it opens with the request, then discusses your experience, the proposed departmental move, and your reasons for staying. Paragraphing helps distinguish these points, and connectors such as “Moreover” and “Because” show some awareness of how ideas relate. To make the progression smoother, connect the learning in your current role more directly to your suitability for Quality Assurance. Some links are mechanical or unclear, particularly the sentence beginning “Because by testing the material,” which does not attach smoothly to the preceding idea. The closing request also repeats the opening rather than bringing the case together. More precise referencing and transitions would make the organisation feel more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant workplace vocabulary, including “production department,” “Quality Assurance,” “deadline,” “defects,” and “management,” so the reader can understand the main purpose. However, the range is limited and several spelling, word-form, and collocation errors reduce precision: “grabed many things,” “peer the pressure,” “theoritical,” and “customer complained” are examples. Phrases such as “friendly nature with the coworkers” are also not natural in this context. Aim for accurate professional expressions, such as “gained experience,” “work under pressure,” and “positive relationships with colleagues.” Checking spelling and choosing standard workplace collocations would make your meaning clearer and more polished.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate the main message using a mixture of short statements and some longer sentences, including “As I can apply my theoritical and practical skills for the Quality department.” However, the range is limited, and attempts to connect clauses are often faulty. For example, “Because by testing the material I can find the defects of material” is not a complete, well-formed sentence, while “The management are transparent” has an agreement problem. There are also issues with articles, tense, and sentence boundaries, as in “it's been a amazing jouney” and the run-on sequence “I grabed many things … it's been… currently I knew.” Practise complete sentences and consistent tense, then proofread agreement and punctuation.
