Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
Hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter because I want to request you to change my department, currently I am working in a design department since two years and I believe I have enough experience in this department so I should move on into the production department for my better future growth.
From design department I learn many things that how to manipulate the ideas according to the requirement and how to present the client. You can take my the performance reports from my seniors colleagues.
Company will definitely get the benefit from me in the next production department because I know how to keep the aesthetic element in the product which will help the production team before the deadline.
This company give me chance to use my abilities and I work hard for this company. It is well known company so I do not want to leave this organization.
Looking forward a positive response from you.
Kind regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address all three requested points: you describe learning to adapt ideas to requirements and present them to clients, propose taking this knowledge into production, and explain that you value the company and do not want to leave. The purpose of the letter is clear. However, the benefits to the company are only briefly stated: keeping aesthetic qualities in products is relevant, but you could explain more specifically how your design experience would improve production decisions or collaboration. Your reason for staying is also general, and the request could be made more clearly and professionally. Develop these points with concrete examples and a direct, courteous request.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter has a recognisable structure, with an opening, separate paragraphs for your experience and proposed benefit, and a closing. This helps the reader identify the main points. However, progression within sentences is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in the opening, where the request, current role, experience, and career goal are joined together. The transition from your learning to the company’s benefit could also be clearer. Use one main idea per sentence and connect paragraphs with purposeful phrases such as “In my current role” and “This experience would enable me to”. The closing is appropriate, though the request for a response could be expressed more naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to the workplace, including “department”, “performance reports”, “production team”, and “abilities”, so the reader can understand your main message. However, the range is limited and several word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “move on into the production department”, “present the client”, and “get the benefit from me”. These choices make parts of the letter less fluent, even though the intended meaning is generally recoverable. Aim for more precise professional collocations, for example, “transfer to the production department”, “present ideas to clients”, and “benefit from my design experience”. Check word forms and phrasing when revising.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, but control is inconsistent, and errors occur frequently enough to affect fluency. For example, “I am working in a design department since two years” has an incorrect tense and time expression; “Company will definitely get the benefit” is missing an article; and “This company give me chance” has agreement and article errors. The opening also joins several clauses with commas, making the sentence difficult to process. Practise present perfect forms for situations continuing to the present, and divide long sentences into shorter, complete clauses. More accurate sentence boundaries and basic agreement would make your message clearer.
