Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Chutiya Manager,

I hope your are doing well. I am writing to formally request your help in moving my department from Quality Assurance Team to Development team. I have taken this discuss after carefully considering my long term future goals.

Firstly I am truly honored to work in this organization. I have been working here from past two years. These years helped me to grow personally and professionally both. From understanding business requirement's to preparing not only case study, but also preparing testcases according to either business specifications or end user perspective. Also ensure that any issue in the code will be found and fixed before any critical business release. Moreover, I gain the detail knowledge of products, database and API's.

I strongly believed that my core coding skills are good enough for changing my journey to development profile. Also, my deep knowledge of database, API's, webservices pulling me more towards this line. Thus, I really feel this career change is paramount for my future and closely aligned with my expertise's.

I already spend two years in your organization. And I have learn from each and everyone in different ways. I really appreciate it if I have given the chance to switch my career journey with same organization from where I have learn a lot of technologies.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You make the purpose clear by requesting a move from Quality Assurance to Development, and you explain what you have learned, including testing, business requirements, and knowledge of products, databases, and APIs. You also indicate that you want to remain with the company because you value what you have learned there. However, the task is only partly addressed: the benefit to the company is not explained, and the reason for staying is mostly expressed as appreciation rather than a clear professional rationale. Your suitability for development is asserted through your coding skills, but this is not supported with a specific example. Develop these points and make the request more direct and complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter has a recognisable structure, with an opening request, paragraphs about your experience and career aims, and a polite closing. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” and “Thus” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is sometimes repetitive: the wish to change career direction is stated in several places, while the company’s benefit is not given its own clear point. Some links are also awkward or unclear, such as “Also ensure that any issue in the code…” and the transition from your skills to the final paragraph. Organise the body around the three requested points, using one focused paragraph for each and clearer links between them.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant workplace vocabulary, including “business requirements,” “test cases,” “database,” “API,” and “career development,” so the reader can understand your professional background and goal. There are also attempts at formal phrasing, such as “formally request” and “closely aligned.” However, several inaccurate or unnatural expressions make the letter less clear, including “taken this discuss,” “changing my journey,” and “detail knowledge.” Some word forms and spellings are also inconsistent, for example “expertise’s” and “webservices.” Aim for precise, natural collocations and check technical terms and plurals. A more controlled vocabulary would make your request sound more professional and convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including the contrast in “not only… but also…” and the sentence beginning “I strongly believed…”. However, complex attempts are often faulty, and frequent errors affect clarity. Examples include “your are” instead of “you are,” “I have been working here from past two years,” and “I have learn from each and everyone.” The sentence “Also ensure that any issue in the code will be found…” lacks a clear subject, while “I really appreciate it if I have given the chance” has an incorrect conditional structure. Use accurate past and present-perfect forms, include a subject in each clause, and practise clear conditional requests such as “I would appreciate it if you would consider my application.”
