Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Everett,

I am writing to request to switch my job to a Truck driver from Wash Technician .

I would like to tell that I am working with your company since 2 years and this company offers me a lot to learn about washing skills such as fleet wash , proprty wash and graffiti removing and I enjoyed working with this company. However , I want to switch myself to delivery department and wants to become a Truck driver as it is my passion and I recently passed my AZ license test.

I am enough confident that I will be a valuable asset for your company as I have better driving skills and as you know that I am punctual to the scheduled time which is mandatory for a driver job so that deliveries will be on time .

I do not wish to leave the company as the staff here is quite supportive , they care about their employees , even small requests can never be ignored which makes it ideal for any worker .

I am waiting for your response.

Yours sincerely,

Aakash

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points and make your purpose clear immediately: you want to move from washing work into the delivery department and become a truck driver. You also identify relevant learning from your current role, including fleet and property washing, and explain your wish to stay by praising the supportive staff. The benefit to the company is present—your driving ability and punctuality could help ensure timely deliveries—but this point is less developed than the others. Explain more specifically how your experience and AZ licence would help the department, and make the request sound more considered by asking about a transfer or next steps. These details would make the ideas more fully extended and supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: you state the request, describe your experience and motivation, explain the potential benefit, and give your reason for staying. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these points, and the opening and closing are appropriate. Some connections are less smooth, however. The second paragraph combines your work history, skills, enjoyment of the company, and career goal in one long sentence, while transitions such as “However” and “so that” do not always link the ideas precisely. The spacing around punctuation also makes the flow look less controlled. Use shorter sentences and clearer links—for example, introduce your experience first, then explain how it prepares you for driving—to make progression more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the situation, including “fleet wash,” “graffiti removing,” “valuable asset,” “punctual,” and “supportive.” These choices communicate your experience and reasons for applying. However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “switch my job to a Truck driver,” “tell that,” and “switch myself” do not express the request idiomatically. There are also spelling errors such as “proprty,” and inconsistent capitalisation of job titles. Aim for standard workplace phrases such as “transfer to the delivery department” and “I would like to explain.” Checking spelling and choosing natural collocations would make the message more fluent and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the main message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors, however, affect accuracy across the letter. For example, “I am working with your company since 2 years” uses an unsuitable tense and time expression; “I want to switch myself … and wants to become” has inconsistent subject–verb agreement; and “I am enough confident” has an incorrect modifier pattern. There are also article and punctuation issues, including the spacing before the full stop in “Technician .” and missing spaces after commas and full stops. Use the present perfect continuous for an activity continuing from the past, keep verb forms consistent with “I,” and proofread sentence boundaries and punctuation.
