Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Manager,

I have been working in this company from last 5 years as a Customer Service Representetive. In this position I have learnt lots of things like what is the workflow of our company, who are our regular clients, how much revenue we are making every year, who are our main suppliers and etc.

For a change in my career, I would like to move in a different department of our company called " Sales Advisor". I can attract lot of new clients as I know what they are looking from our company. Also, my communication skills become excellent after working as a Customer Service Representetive, so I can answer all the questions asked by our clients in a polite and professional way. You do not need to provide training for this position because, I know the background of our company very well, so I can easily explain it to our clients.

I do not wish to leave this company, becuase it gave me a chance when I had no experience of this field. I will remember this for lifetime becuase it showed trust in me and gave me faith at an initial stage of my carrer. Honestly, it feels like home whenever I am surrounded by my colleagues.

Kind regards,

Abhi Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points and maintain a clear, appropriate purpose: you describe what you have learned, request a move to Sales Advisor, and explain your loyalty to the company. The examples of learning about clients, revenue and suppliers are relevant, while your knowledge of customers and the company gives a sensible reason the transfer could benefit the employer. However, the benefit is asserted more than developed: explain, for example, how your customer-service experience could help increase sales or retain clients. Your reason for staying is personal and clear, but could be linked more directly to your future contribution to the company. These uneven levels of development keep some ideas less fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, with each paragraph serving a distinct purpose: experience gained, the proposed transfer and its benefits, then your reason for staying. The progression is easy to follow, and links such as “Also” and “because” help connect supporting points. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and shows some of the clearer progression associated with the next level. To make the flow more consistently polished, use transitions that express the relationship between ideas more precisely, and avoid listing several facts in one sentence (“who are our regular clients, how much revenue… who are our main suppliers”). A more deliberate link between your experience and the company’s likely sales benefit would also strengthen progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the request and its supporting reasons, including relevant workplace terms such as “regular clients,” “main suppliers,” “communication skills” and “professional.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “Customer Service Representative” and “Sales Advisor.” However, several spelling and word-choice problems reduce precision: “Representetive,” “becuase” and “carrer” are misspelled, while “attract lot of new clients” and “what they are looking” are not natural collocations or phrasing. “Lots of things” is also vague for a formal workplace letter. Choose more precise expressions and proofread spelling; this would make your otherwise understandable vocabulary more accurate and appropriate to the context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, and most of the message remains clear. For example, “I do not wish to leave this company, because it gave me a chance…” combines a main clause with a reason, while “I can attract…” explains a possible benefit. Some grammatical errors remain. In “I have been working in this company from last 5 years,” the time expression and preposition need correction; “I know what they are looking” is missing a required element after “looking”; and “my communication skills become excellent after working” uses an unsuitable tense for a change that has already occurred. Review prepositions, verb forms and sentence punctuation, while continuing to use varied structures.
