Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to discuss my career development and to request your consideration for a move to a different department within the company. I have been working in my current role for the past two years and feel this is the right time to take the next step in my professional growth.
During my time in this position, I have learned a great deal about our internal process, teamwork, and meeting deadlines effectively. I have also developed strong communication and problem-solving skills, which have helped me contribute positively to my team's performance.
I believe transferring me to another department would benefit the company, as I can apply my existing knowledge while gaining new skills. My understanding of the organization and its system would allow me to adopt quickly and support business objectives efficiently.
I would like to emphasises that I do not wish to leave the company, as I value the supportive work enviornment and long-term career opportunities it offers. I am keen to continue growing within the organization.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerly,
Dhrumil

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, appropriate purpose: you request an internal transfer, describe what you have learned, explain the company’s potential benefit, and state why you want to stay. The examples of learning about “teamwork” and “meeting deadlines,” alongside communication and problem-solving skills, give the first point some support. You also explain that your organisational knowledge could help you adapt quickly. However, the benefits to the company and your reasons for remaining are expressed quite generally; a specific example of how your skills could help the new department, or what makes this company especially valuable to you, would develop these ideas more fully. The response is relevant and complete, but some support remains broad.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The letter is organised in a clear sequence: it opens with the request, then covers your experience, the company’s benefit, and your wish to remain before closing politely. Each paragraph has a distinct purpose, so the reader can follow the progression without difficulty. Linking phrases such as “During my time,” “I believe,” and “as” help connect the ideas, and the formal opening and sign-off suit the audience. To make the flow even more polished, you could link the skills you gained more explicitly to the needs of the department you hope to join. The paragraphing and progression are effective; cohesion is generally flexible, though the connections between some claims could be more specific.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a suitable range of professional vocabulary, including “career development,” “professional growth,” “problem-solving skills,” and “business objectives.” These choices communicate the purpose clearly and show some flexibility beyond basic wording. However, a few word-choice, collocation, and spelling slips reduce precision: “adopt quickly” should be “adapt quickly,” “emphasises” should be “emphasise,” and “enviornment” and “sincerly” are misspelled. “Internal process” and “its system” would also sound more natural as “internal processes” and “its systems.” These issues do not prevent understanding, but careful proofreading and more precise phrasing would strengthen control of vocabulary and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
The letter includes a useful mix of sentence forms, including complex structures such as “I believe transferring me to another department would benefit the company, as I can apply my existing knowledge while gaining new skills.” Most sentences are clear and grammatically controlled, and the polite request is framed appropriately. There are a few errors to correct: “I would like to emphasises” should be “I would like to emphasise,” since the verb after “would like to” takes the base form. The sentence “My understanding of the organization and its system would allow me to adopt quickly” also needs a grammatical adjustment to “allow me to adapt quickly”; the latter is primarily a word-choice correction. Overall, the range and control are good, with a small number of slips remaining.
