Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Manager,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express my inerest in different department that is project assistant.

At the onset, I am currently working as assistant manager of customer service, I think I have learned a lot not only from this position but also from this department too. I mastered that, how to handle critical situations, how to be a good communicator on calls with clients, team collaboration, well presenter, able to work in fast faced environment.

Furthermore, if I will shift to another branch which is equivalent to my current position, I think company will be in double profit. I will play same role but with international clients, able to show my natural and adapted skills confidently. In this way, I will not only extend my knowledge but also able to impelement in our organisation too.

Additonally, I want to change my department to experience something new. By changing company,I will not only get chance to explore international business culture of other companies but also get opportunity to impeliment in institution too. That branch is near to my home as well , I think it will be more convenient for me.

Finally , I hope you will understand my concern and reasong behind this request.

Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You make a request to move departments and include relevant points about your current experience, possible benefits to the company, and your reasons for staying. However, the response does not clearly fulfil the task in several places. You name a “project assistant” role, but then describe moving to “another branch” and doing the same role with international clients, so the proposed department and position are unclear. The benefit to the company is asserted as “double profit” rather than explained with a specific contribution. Most importantly, the paragraph about changing companies conflicts with the instruction that you do not wish to leave the company. Clarify that you want an internal transfer and explain directly why you value remaining with this employer.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter has a recognisable sequence: an opening request, experience, potential benefits, reasons, and a closing. Paragraph breaks and signposts such as “Furthermore” and “Finally” help the reader follow the broad structure. However, the progression becomes difficult to track when “different department,” “another branch,” and “changing company” are used as if they describe the same move. Some linking phrases are also mechanical, and the repeated “not only…but also” construction does not always connect parallel ideas clearly. Organise the body around the three requested points, and use clear references to distinguish an internal department transfer from leaving the company. This would make the letter’s argument more consistent and easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of workplace vocabulary, including “critical situations,” “team collaboration,” “international clients,” and “business culture,” which is relevant to the topic. There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems that sometimes make the intended meaning less clear, such as “inerest,” “fast faced,” “well presenter,” and “impeliment.” Some expressions are unnatural or imprecise: “company will be in double profit” does not clearly state the benefit, while “change my department to experience something new” is broad. Choose accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe the skills you have developed and specify how they could help the target department serve clients or support projects.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple statements and attempts at longer structures, including “I think I have learned a lot not only from this position but also from this department too.” The main message is generally understandable, but errors in sentence construction and verb forms recur. For example, “if I will shift” should use a present form after “if,” and “I will not only extend my knowledge but also able to implement” lacks a matching verb structure. The list beginning “I mastered that, how to handle” is not grammatically formed, and several sentences run together without appropriate spacing or punctuation. Practise building complete sentences with parallel clauses, and proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries to make your ideas clearer.
