Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter to request you to change my department as this decision would be very beneficial for my career development and will eventually increase my experience.
I have been a part of this outstanding company as a graphic designer for two years, and I have learned alot about different processes and authoritatives roles. I am very grateful for the oppurtunitiy to learn new skills and and work on my weaknesses. and I would be grateful if you could give me a chance to perform my professional responsibilities in the 'Human Resources' department, because it will allow me to polish my management and communication skills. The firm could eventually get benefit from this change because it will enhance my productivity and I could help flourish this company by using this prestigous administrative experience.
I do not want to sign a resignation because this firm has a special place in my heart. I love the friendly working environment and I would like to work for the betterment and prosperity of this company. I would be very delighted if you could spare sometime from your hectic routine and review my case at your earliest convenience. I look forward to your prompt response.
Yours faithfully,
Adam Singh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points and maintain a clear, appropriately formal request. You explain what you learned as a graphic designer, propose a move to Human Resources, and give reasons for staying, including the friendly environment and your attachment to the company. The benefit to the employer is also stated through improved productivity and your contribution to the firm. However, some points are less fully developed: “different processes and authoritatives roles” is vague, and the company’s benefit is asserted rather than supported with a specific example of how your design experience would help HR. Adding a concrete link between your existing skills and the new department would make the case more convincing and complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: the opening states your request, the middle explains your experience and proposed move, and the final paragraph gives your reasons for remaining and closes politely. This progression makes the purpose easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “because” and “eventually” help connect ideas, although “eventually” is repeated and some connections feel mechanical. The long middle paragraph combines what you learned, your request, and the company’s benefit, so separating these ideas would improve focus. There are also abrupt sentence boundaries in “work on my weaknesses. and I would be grateful,” which interrupt the flow. More deliberate paragraphing and clearer links between each task point would strengthen the organisation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a formal workplace letter, including “career development,” “professional responsibilities,” “productivity,” and “friendly working environment.” These choices communicate your purpose and show attempts to use less common vocabulary. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “alot,” “oppurtunitiy,” and “prestigous” are misspelled, while “authoritatives roles” is unclear. Some collocations are also unnatural, such as “get benefit from this change” and “sign a resignation.” Replacing these with conventional workplace expressions and checking spelling would make the letter more fluent and professional. Your vocabulary is relevant, but accuracy and natural phrasing are not yet consistent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including the conditional idea “if you could give me a chance” and the reason clause “because it will allow me to polish my management and communication skills.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors are noticeable. For example, “I have learned” is followed by the fragment “and I would be grateful” after a full stop and lowercase “and”; the repeated “and” in “and and work” also needs correction. In “I could help flourish this company,” the verb pattern is not controlled, and “I do not want to sign a resignation” does not express the intended grammatical meaning. Proofread sentence boundaries and practise accurate verb patterns to improve control.
