Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Manager,

I am writing this letter to inform you of my intent to be transferred from the logistics department to accounting department.

Over the few years of working for this company I have ganered a lot of experience and development. I am no longer the newbie who came in here some time ago and could not differentiate his left from his right. Also my time spent in logistics department has enabled me improve in product handling and stock keeping and I believe these are necessary improvements for anyone in our line of work.

I strongly believe that I have a lot to offer this company in the accounting sector. Despite my increased technical know-how in terms of the modus operandi of this lovley company, it is worth noting that I possess an undergraduate degree in finance and my knowledge in acoounting will be an invaluable asset to this company.

I would also appeal that my application to be transferred to another sector should not be mistaken for resignation, I am simply asking to be elevated to the department of accounting and I very much still want that to be in this company because I have established a deep, respectful and cordial relationship with my colleagues and other staff here. This company is my second home. Thank you so much and I look forward to hearing from you.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three required points and makes your purpose clear: you request a move from logistics to accounting, describe what you have learned, explain the value of your finance degree, and state that you want to remain with the company. The explanation of your experience is relevant, especially your reference to product handling and stock keeping. The benefit to the company is also identified through your accounting knowledge, but it would be stronger with a specific example of how your logistics experience could help the accounting team. Your reason for staying is clear, though the personal relationship with colleagues is developed more than your professional reasons for remaining. These details give the response solid coverage, while some ideas still need fuller support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, with a logical progression from your request, to your experience and suitability, and finally to your wish to stay. Linking expressions such as “Also,” “Despite,” and “I would also appeal” help signal how the ideas relate. The closing sentence is appropriate and gives the letter a clear ending. Some connections could be more precise: “Despite” introduces a contrast that is not fully clear, since your technical knowledge and degree both support your application. The long final paragraph also combines your request not to be mistaken for resigning with your reasons for staying. Separating these points, and using a more direct transition between them, would make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal workplace letter, including “transferred,” “technical know-how,” “invaluable asset,” and “cordial relationship.” These choices help communicate your purpose and professional background. There are, however, some spelling and word-choice errors, including “ganered,” “lovley,” and “acoounting,” which reduce accuracy. A few expressions are also awkward or overly informal for this context: “could not differentiate his left from his right” is vivid but conversational, while “elevated to the department” does not naturally describe a transfer. Aim for precise, conventional workplace phrasing and check spelling carefully. This would make your vocabulary more controlled without requiring more elaborate language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter includes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, and most of the meaning remains clear. For example, “I strongly believe that I have a lot to offer this company in the accounting sector” is a clear complex sentence, and you use subordinate clauses to explain your reasons. Some grammatical errors remain. In “has enabled me improve,” the verb pattern requires “to improve”; “from the logistics department to accounting department” needs an article before “accounting department”; and “I would also appeal that” uses an unsuitable construction for the clause that follows. The final paragraph contains a long sentence joined by a comma, so consider splitting it into shorter sentences. More accurate verb patterns, articles, and sentence boundaries would improve control.
