Student answer (Band 6.5)

It has been a controversial topic that whether celebrities should be followed and photographed at each place. People on one side believes that it is lucrative as they are interested in their life style, but others think that it should not be done as it invades their privacy. In my opinion controlled photography is crucial. The essay will discuss former view first before moving on to later view.

With the advent of technology nowadays the smartphones are accompanied with the feature of cameras; therefore, more people have a hobby of following famous people and share their life-style on social media. Moreover, people are generally influenced by celebrities not only they tend to live a luxurious life but they also tend to have a health life compared to others; hence they are more curious and take pictures to share on internet. Additionally, famous people have health habits like either going to the gym for physical health or performing yoga in parks for their mental health. For instance, paparazzi's follows female celebrities to each place they go, and take pictures without consent.

In contrary, the fact that people want to follow their lifestyle is undeniably positive trend, but everyone have a right to privacy which should not be taken lightly. To explain this, it has been observed that hero's nowadays have to hide themselves by masks, wigs, goggles, and even helmets just to not get involved in controversies. Furthermore, the trend of photographing famous people has detrimental impacts on their lives in terms of decreasing their public confidence simultaneously surges their fear of being watched each place they go. For example, MS Dhoni in his movie showed how he had to hide him self under scarf and helmet when wanted to meet his girlfriend.

To conclude, although following hero's lifestyle and taking pictures of them is beneficial, the fact that everyone has a right to privacy should not be overruled.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses both viewpoints and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The first body paragraph focuses more on the general public's habits rather than the specific arguments for why it is a 'good thing' for celebrities to be photographed. The second paragraph is more focused, but the explanation of the negative impacts could be more deeply explored. The conclusion is quite brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To reach a higher band, ensure that each viewpoint is supported by clear, logical reasoning rather than just descriptive examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'In contrary', though some are used slightly awkwardly (e.g., 'In contrary' should be 'On the contrary'). The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the transition between the public's interest and the paparazzi's actions. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints, which helps the reader follow the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'lucrative', 'detrimental', and 'controversies'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'health habits' instead of 'healthy habits' and 'health life' instead of 'healthy lifestyle'. The phrase 'paparazzi's follows' contains a grammatical error in the possessive form. Expanding the range of precise vocabulary would improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('People on one side believes', 'everyone have a right') and awkward phrasing ('It has been a controversial topic that whether'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction. While the errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage would be beneficial.
