Student answer (Band 7.0)

These days, celebrities are being followed everywhere by certified photographers in other to take photos of them. While some people believe that it is a good thing because they provide the public with first hand information, others argue that it is bad. In my opinion, although it is good to have take their pictures, however taken it without their consent is considered invasion of privacy.

On the one hand, celebrities often hire professional photographers to follow them around to different occasions in other to take their pictures to post online. It is their job to make sure these photos are good for posting. For example, popular people enjoy giving the public premium update about their lives and these photographers are always around them to make sure every moment is captured. Additionally, clean pictures always attract viewers and engagement on their social media handles and that is why these licenced artists follow them about to capture a clear picture.

On the other hand, journalists and photographers from blog industry now follow these celebrities around to get details about them which are meant to be private such as their hospital visits and their family or personal affairs. Some of these celebrities are reserved in so a way that they do not bring their family matters on social, but bloggers would pay journalists and photographers to follow them about to get some details for them. I consider these an invasion of privacy. For instance, this famous people may want to step out, not knowing that there are cameras everywhere waiting for them to come out. For me, I think it is unacceptable and this may affect their privacy negatively.

In conclusion, I think while it's good to photograph them, it is also bad to have their private pictures taken unaware or without a concept, it is an invasion of privacy which is a negative thing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the distinction between professional photography for branding and intrusive paparazzi behavior. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the second paragraph. The conclusion is a bit brief and could have better synthesized the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph offers distinct, well-supported arguments rather than restating similar points about privacy or social media engagement. Overall, the task is fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, there is some mechanical repetition of phrases like 'follow them about' and 'take their pictures.' The flow between sentences is generally smooth, but the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph could be more sophisticated. The use of referencing is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common collocations like 'premium update' and 'licenced artists,' though these are slightly unnatural in this context. Some errors in word choice occur, such as 'concept' instead of 'consent' and 'blog industry' instead of 'blogging industry.' While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Expanding the range of synonyms for 'famous people' and 'photographers' would improve the lexical variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'in other to' (instead of 'in order to'), 'this famous people' (subject-verb agreement), and 'in so a way' (word order). Punctuation is generally functional, though some sentences are slightly clunky. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of prepositions and conjunctions in complex sentences.
