Student answer (Band 7.0)

These days people with stardom are followed for getting their pictures clicked by skilled photographers. It is considered by some that it is a positive thing because commoners look towards them as their idol. However, others believe that this is not right. In my opinion, it should be ok to certain extent where the personal life of these popular personalities is not hampered.

On the one hand, many people consider them as their role models and set their life goals accordingly. If such personalities are being captured doing social work that would lead to better encouragement for their followers. For instance, a football player going to an NGO to serve children, elderly and specially abled people can be an example for fans. Thus, capturing what these stardom owned people are doing can bring positive change in many.

On the other hand, clicking pictures where ever these famous people are going can disrupt their personal life. Sometimes, it is observed that they do not want anyone to know what is happening in their lives and when they are followed nothing remains hidden. For example, some personalities want to keep their family life private and does not like that their family member pictures should be taken. Recently, Priyanka Chopra, former Miss World, reveled that she had opted for no picture policy for her daughter till the age of three. Therefore, it is not a nice gesture of following popular people everywhere.

To conclude, trained photographers follow the people who are really popular and which is an acceptable thing most of the time. However, this should be done considering that their personal space is never intervened. As per my perspective, moderation is necessary in this case, such as photographs should be taken and posted but always with the consent of the person.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt: it discusses both views regarding paparazzi and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of a football player and Priyanka Chopra. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, the development of the arguments could be more nuanced; for instance, the discussion on the 'public interest' could explore the psychological or societal implications of celebrity culture more deeply rather than focusing solely on role models. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'For instance', and 'To conclude' are used effectively to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be more sophisticated. For example, the phrase 'stardom owned people' is a bit awkward and disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate and allows for clear communication. There are some attempts at less common collocations, such as 'personal space is never intervened' and 'no picture policy'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'people with stardom' and 'stardom owned people', which sound unnatural. The word 'reveled' is likely a misspelling of 'revealed'. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and precise terminology related to the topic of media and privacy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'does not like that their family member pictures should be taken' (subject-verb agreement and phrasing) and 'which is an acceptable thing' (relative clause usage). Punctuation is mostly accurate, but there are minor slips throughout. To achieve a higher score, you should aim for more error-free complex sentences and ensure that subject-verb agreement is consistently maintained, especially when dealing with plural subjects like 'personalities'.
