IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Nowadays famous people are photographed by professional photographers everywhere they go. Some people say this is a good thing because the public are interested in their lives. Other people think that photographers are wrong to follow famous people.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believed that photographing by professionals is very important because people are interested in the lives of famous people. While others argued that it has negative effects. I will explain both views in the following paragraphs.
On the one hand, it helps people understand what they should follow these people because they have some information about these people, such as what they are doing behind the scenes. For example, I saw a photo of Salman Khan, who is a very famous hero in India, doing great work for poor people. As a result, I will follow these guys after seeing their photographs of helping these guys.
On the other hand, it has some bad effects on people's lives because some people blindly follow famous people. If they see any photograph of their favorite people, they will be influenced by it. So, people can adopt any bad habits, such as drinking alcohol and spending money on expensive items. For example, my brother was influenced by some photographs of famous people and started drinking beer, which is not good for his health. So, it would not be wrong to say it has some adverse effects on people's lives.
In conclusion, although people want to know about famous people's lives, we should not follow them by seeing their photographs for many reasons, such as bad habits. In my opinion, people should follow famous people by their work, not by seeing photographs, because some photographs can be wrong.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited, and the essay falls slightly short of the 250-word minimum requirement. While the arguments regarding public interest and the negative influence of celebrities are relevant, they lack depth and could be expanded with more sophisticated reasoning. The conclusion effectively summarizes the position, but the overall length constraint negatively impacts the depth of the analysis, leading to a score of 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each view, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing (e.g., 'these people', 'these guys') is repetitive and occasionally imprecise, which affects the overall cohesion. The structure is sufficient for a 6.0 band.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. Phrases like 'very famous hero' and 'bad habits' are quite basic. There is some repetition of words such as 'people' and 'photographs'. To achieve a higher score, the student should aim to use more academic collocations and a wider range of synonyms to avoid repetitive phrasing. The current range is sufficient to communicate ideas clearly but does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'photographing by professionals' (should be 'being photographed by professionals') and 'follow famous people by their work' (should be 'follow famous people based on their work'). While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The control over complex structures is inconsistent, warranting a 5.5.
