Student answer (Band 7.0)

Clicking picture of the famous people by the professional photographers has been become a trend nowadays. This is because, their followers tend to follow their lifestyle and to adapt it. Although some people consider this a good idea, some argue that it is a waste of time. I personally believe that by following our idols gives us motivation to adapt their lifestyle.

To begin with, celebrities such as cricketers, singers and actors are often followed by the paparazzi. They tend to click their pictures and share it through social media, newspaper and books. Therefore, it attracts their fans, who want to adapt their livelihood. Moreover, it has been seen that, people always follow their idols and try to copy them by their clothes, cars and even hairstyles. Additionally, by looking at their favorite celebrities, people tend to manifest their goals and ultimately get motivated. For instance, when a cricket fan look at his favorite batsman, he tries to follow his techniques and improve his flaws.

On the other hand, others argue that following famous is a waste of time. This is because community believe that celebrities sometimes promote unsuitable content which is not good for children. For example, some actors tend to endorse alcohol and cigarettes which can affect their followers in a negative way. Therefore, following them can result in bad habits among teenagers. Additionally, some actresses encourage viewers to watch vulgar content through their movies, which hinders viewers concentration towards their important goals.

In conclusion, despite the fact that some viewers get influenced in a negative way, influencers tend to encourage audience to manifest their goals and work hard to achieve that. Similarly, some actors have a devastating past, however, their hard-work and dedication influence people to learn and work hard in their future to become like their idols.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the motivational aspect of celebrities versus the negative influence of inappropriate content. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the link between paparazzi photography and the specific examples of 'alcohol and cigarettes' is a bit loose, as the prompt focuses on the act of being photographed rather than the content of the celebrities' work itself. To reach a higher band, ensure that the arguments remain strictly focused on the implications of constant surveillance by photographers.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'following famous' which lacks a noun. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the structure supports the reader's understanding of the writer's position.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. The student uses some topic-specific terms like 'paparazzi', 'endorse', and 'devastating'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'Clicking picture of the famous people' (should be 'Taking photographs of famous people') and 'adapt their lifestyle' (should be 'adopt'). Additionally, 'livelihood' is used incorrectly to mean lifestyle. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise word usage to achieve a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'has been become' (redundant auxiliary), 'by following our idols gives us' (incorrect subject-verb structure), and 'when a cricket fan look' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some unnecessary commas. While the errors are frequent, they rarely impede the reader's ability to understand the intended meaning. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice constructions.
