Student answer (Band 7.0)

In modern era, celebrities are constantly pursued and documented by photojournalists where ever they go. While some celebrities claim that constant publicity boost their image but some think intrusive photography is unethical. In my opinion, although public attention is inevitable part of frame, relentless surveillance crosses line into an unacceptable violation of privacy.

On the one hand, proponents of celebrity coverage argue that public interest justifies the presence of photojournalists. Consequently, maintaining a constant presence in newspaper, magazines and digital media keeps these celebrity relevant. Furthermore it is beneficial to both media and celebrities as the media generates more income and celebrities will be remembered quite frequently. For eg a high reputed celebrity gives best performance in one of the movies but it wont catch public attention until the news captured by the media

On other hand there are compelling reasons why aggressive tracking celebrities is wrong. The constitution gives every citizen the personal rights to privacy particularly when spending time with their family. Persistent pursuit by paparazzi can cause severe emotional stress, harassment, pose significant physical risks to the celebrities and their families. For eg a high reputed celebrity dies, all media and journalists will poke into their privacy and make news as a special exclusive which makes the family in more stress and tension.

In conclusion, while public fascination with celebrities drives a thriving media industry and supports celebrity career, I firmly believe that non-stop, uninvited photography is unjustifiable. Society must balance the appetite for entertainment against basic human rights to privacy and personal safety.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all parts of the prompt, discussing both sides of the argument and providing a clear personal opinion. Your ideas are relevant, such as the mention of public interest versus the right to privacy. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the example regarding a celebrity's death is a bit vague and could have been more effectively linked to the argument about harassment. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting examples are more specific and fully explored to demonstrate a deeper level of critical thinking.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'Consequently,' and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow. For example, the phrase 'In modern era' lacks an article, and the connection between sentences in the second paragraph could be smoother. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'intrusive,' 'relentless surveillance,' and 'compelling reasons.' There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'inevitable part of frame' (likely meant 'fame') and 'high reputed' (should be 'highly reputed'). Additionally, some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'poke into their privacy.' While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from reaching a more sophisticated level. Expanding your range of collocations would improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully employ complex sentences, there are several grammatical slips, particularly with articles ('In modern era') and subject-verb agreement ('publicity boost' should be 'boosts'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are missing commas in some complex sentences. The majority of your sentences are clear, and the errors do not cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on proofreading for small errors like missing articles and ensuring consistent verb forms.
