Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument, but the development is uneven. While you mention the benefits of celebrity photography (advertising, fashion, inspiration), the second paragraph is less developed and ends abruptly mid-sentence, which negatively impacts the overall task completion. Furthermore, you failed to state your own opinion clearly, which is a requirement of the prompt. The response is also under the 250-word minimum, which limits your ability to fully explore the complexities of the topic. To improve, ensure you dedicate equal space to both viewpoints, provide a clear thesis statement in the introduction, and ensure your conclusion explicitly states your personal stance on the issue.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into two main paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed. You use some cohesive devices like 'On the other side' and 'Also', but the transitions between sentences are often mechanical. The lack of a formal introduction and a clear conclusion makes the overall structure feel incomplete. Additionally, the abrupt ending of the first paragraph ('youngste') suggests a lack of careful planning or proofreading. To improve, use a wider range of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that relates back to the prompt.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'famous people' and 'photographers', and use basic descriptors like 'famous things' or 'really wrong moments'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'do a lot of expense', which should be 'incur high expenses'. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to media, privacy, and public interest, and focus on using more sophisticated synonyms to avoid repetition and demonstrate a wider range of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'now a days' should be 'nowadays', and 'ninety percent their life' is missing a preposition ('of'). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'results economic problems'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with prepositions, articles, and pluralisation, and try to vary your sentence structures to include more complex, error-free clauses.
