Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, a lot of people influenced by famous people, therefore, well-known people photographed by professional and skilled photographers everywhere and everytime. Some people think that this development is good, as several individuals are interested in their lives. While others believe that it is wrong to follow famous people by photographers. This essay will mention reasons for both views, and I think that balanced approach is best.

To begin with, several reasons can be considered to support the idea that the public is curious about celebrities’ lives therefore photographers take photos of them. The predominant reason is that by capturing well-known people, the community know about culture, fashion, and current trends, as famous people frequently participate in different charity events and other social programs. Not only this, but because of media coverage, celebrities get chance to appear in TV ads, movies, which help them to increase their fan following. For example, photography of politicians during rallies helps voters to know about particular person and policy.

On the other hand, we cannot ignore that this development has some demerits. The major reason is that a lot of photographs by photographers sometimes break their privacy at some places, such as homes, vacations, and at family events. In addition, constant attention from the public can hurt their mental health and also strain their relationships. For instance, there are some cases in which photographers publish false pictures and information about famous people; as a consequence, they have to face some wrong obligations, which increases their stress and make them feel depressed.

To conclude and according to my opinion, both views have their valid points. However, capturing famous people in ethical way is vital, as it provides helpful information and support to society, and it also maintains privacy for their personal lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the public's interest in trends versus the invasion of privacy. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding politicians is a bit tangential to the general concept of 'famous people' (celebrities). While the position is clear, the explanation of why a 'balanced approach' is best could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The essay covers the requirements well but lacks the depth of analysis expected at the highest levels.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs. There is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude'. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or repetitive, and the use of 'therefore' in the first paragraph is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure could benefit from more sophisticated linking between sentences to improve the flow of arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'media coverage', 'privacy', and 'mental health'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'wrong obligations' and 'everytime' (which should be 'every time'). The repetition of 'famous people' and 'photographers' suggests a need for a wider range of synonyms to demonstrate more flexibility and precision in language use.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's flow. For example, the opening sentence 'a lot of people influenced by famous people' lacks a main verb. There are also issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement, such as 'celebrities get chance' instead of 'get a chance' and 'make them feel' instead of 'makes them feel'. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band score.
