Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, the constant media attention surrounding the lives of famous people has become a widely debated issue. In this contemporary epoch, many people opine it is okay to capture their lives whereas some people oppose it. I certainly in the favor of latter position. In this essay I will discuss both views and justify my opinion.

To begin with, public figure should have the right to choose what part of their life they want to show it to public. But, the media houses start capturing photographs without even taking consent from the celebrity. They believe, it will attract the public and by that they will earn more followers by publishing it. For instance, when renowned people go to airport or restaurants they click their pictures without even asking them. Even in some cases they capture the photos outside the saloon also. By this many public icons feel humiliated.

Furthermore, many celebrities does not want to reveal their families photos to public, so that they can live a normal life like other people. But, journalists showcase them too on their channels. For Instance, A famous celebrity couple in India Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma has clearly requested media on their social media handles that please do not click photos of our babies. They did not want to reveal the faces of their babies but some paparazzi clicked their photos and posted on their social media handles. As a result, couple decided to move to different country to get some privacy and have a control on their personal life. However, public figures should have to be ready for the consequences as they are renowned and everybody wants to know them personally also to know them more. For instance, many people get motivated with their achievements and their struggles like "Jack Ma's " founder of Alibaba. his life is so inspiring that people always wish to know more about him. Thus, it becomes the responsibility of media to show them more.

To conclude, every side has a positive and negatives too. But, media should be more mindful that they can figure out what needs to be publish and what not. Also, they should always ask the permission of the celebrity first before filming them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the discussion on privacy versus the public's interest in inspiring figures. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The example of Virat Kohli is well-integrated, but the transition to the counter-argument regarding Jack Ma is a bit abrupt and could have been better linked to the main prompt. The conclusion is a bit brief and could have more effectively summarised the main points to reinforce the position taken. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, but further depth in the analysis would elevate the score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organised into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'By this many public icons feel humiliated', where 'this' refers back to a broad concept rather than a specific antecedent. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal flow within the third paragraph could be smoother to better connect the conflicting ideas about privacy and public interest.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'public figure', 'media attention', and 'paparazzi'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'in the favor of latter position' (should be 'in favor of the latter position') and 'showcase them too on their channels'. There are also minor errors like 'saloon' (likely meant 'salon') and 'have a control on' (should be 'have control over'). While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('many celebrities does not want', 'public figure should have'), missing articles ('go to airport'), and awkward phrasing ('everybody wants to know them personally also to know them more'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with comma usage. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
