Student answer (Band 7.5)
Nowadays, famous people are often photographed by professional photographers wherever they go. Some people believe that this is a positive development because the public is interested in the lives of celebrities, while others think that photographers should not follow them. This essay will discuss both views before giving my own opinion.
On the one hand, there are several reasons why people believe that photographing famous people is a good thing. Firstly, many members of the public are interested in the lives and activities of celebrities. Photographs can help them learn about the latest events in the entertainment industry. For example, photographs of actors and singers at public events are often published in newspapers and online magazines, which allows their fans to know what they are doing. Secondly, professional photographers and media companies can earn money from this type of work because there is a large demand for celebrity news.
On the other hand, many people believe that photographers should not constantly follow famous people. The main reason is that celebrities also need privacy in their personal lives. Being photographed everywhere can make them feel uncomfortable and stressed, especially when they are spending time with their families. For instance, a famous person may want to have a quiet meal at a restaurant, but photographers may continue taking pictures without considering their privacy. In addition, some photographers may follow celebrities closely in order to get attractive photographs, which can sometimes create safety problems.
In my opinion, although the public has a genuine interest in famous people, photographers should respect their privacy. Taking photographs at public events is reasonable, but following celebrities during their private activities should not be acceptable.
In conclusion, photographing famous people can provide entertainment for the public and create employment for photographers. However, I believe that celebrities should be allowed to have a private life, and photographers should respect reasonable boundaries.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and logically developed, such as the mention of public interest in the entertainment industry versus the ethical concerns regarding privacy and safety. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, the student could provide more nuanced analysis or specific, real-world examples to further extend the arguments, as the current support is somewhat general. Overall, the task is fully addressed with a clear, balanced structure.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the transition between paragraphs is smooth, using appropriate cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'In addition'. The use of referencing is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task. The flow of information is natural, and the reader can easily follow the writer's line of reasoning. The cohesion is effective and does not attract unnecessary attention, meeting the requirements for a high band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is sufficient and appropriate for the topic. The student uses a range of relevant terms such as 'entertainment industry', 'personal lives', and 'reasonable boundaries'. While the vocabulary is accurate and conveys the intended meaning well, it lacks a high degree of sophistication or 'less common' lexical items that would distinguish it at the highest level. There are no significant errors in word choice or collocation, and the language used is natural and fits the context of the essay well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The essay demonstrates a good control of grammatical structures. There is a mix of simple and complex sentences, such as 'Although the public has a genuine interest in famous people, photographers should respect their privacy.' The majority of sentences are error-free, and the punctuation is used correctly throughout. While the range of structures is solid, it could be further enhanced by incorporating more varied complex sentence patterns or advanced grammatical forms to demonstrate greater flexibility. However, the current level of accuracy is high and does not impede communication.
