Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today's era, popular individuals are photographed by professional photographers wherever they go. Some people argue that this is a positive development because the public are always interested in knowing about the lives of famous people, while others believe that it is wrong to constantly follow and photograph celebrities. I completely agree that this may breach their privacy. However, this essay will discuss both views with some relevant examples in the following paragraphs.

Talking about the first view, Famous people are often chased by paparazzi, so that they can share their personal routine by tracking down their routes such as, gym sessions, shopping, hair styling, dinner stops and manymore. Many people often follow certain media pages on social media, so that they can see their standard of living or may be to see their routine. To cite example, In India majority of the pictures and videos of big celebrities are posted by a page handler on instagram called RVCJ insta, and this page already have 120 million plus followers from around the world. In addition to this, One major advantage is that photographs allow the public to stay informed about celebrities’ lives and activities. People are often curious about their favourite celebrities, so these photographs can satisfy their interest and keep them updated about their recent events and public appearances.

Talking about the second view, celebrities also need a private life away from their career. Being famous does not mean that they should showcase their entire lifestyle by breaching their me or family time. It is very difficult for them to go out and enjoy their life peacefully, as they can get chased by media, news reporter and paparazzi. Apart from this, excessive media attention can cause unnecessary stress and make celebrities feel uncomfortable in their daily lives. They should be able to spend time with their families and friends without being constantly photographed or followed. Respecting their privacy is therefore essential, even if they are well-known public figures.

To conclude, though many people support first view the most, but I personally believe that famous stars should not be treated like this, they should sometimes deserve private space in order to live their life peacefully without any involvement of photographers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the public's interest in celebrity lifestyles versus the need for privacy. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. The first body paragraph relies heavily on a specific example (RVCJ) which, while relevant, could be balanced with more general analysis. The second body paragraph is more persuasive but could benefit from further exploration of the 'media's role' beyond just the impact on the celebrity. The position is consistent throughout the essay, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0, but requires more depth to reach higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition to this', 'Apart from this', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive, such as starting paragraphs with 'Talking about the first view'. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be smoother. The use of punctuation is occasionally inconsistent, which slightly impacts the overall cohesion. Overall, the structure is logical and easy to follow, fitting the criteria for a Band 6.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'paparazzi', 'public figures', and 'breaching their privacy'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are some awkward collocations or phrasing, such as 'page handler' or 'manymore' (which should be two words). The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the message effectively but lacks the sophistication or precision required for a higher band score. It is a solid performance at the Band 6.0 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the public are' vs 'is'), article usage, and punctuation (e.g., 'To cite example, In India...'). There are also some run-on sentences and minor errors in word order. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching the Band 7.0 level. The writer demonstrates a good grasp of basic grammar but needs to refine complex structures for better accuracy.
