Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, popular people are captured by photographers. while some believe that this practice satisfies the public's interest in celebrities, others argue that it is an unjustified invasion of privacy. This essay discuss both views and argues that privacy should be respected.

On the one hand, photographing celebrities can be beneficial because the public is curious about their lives. Famous actors, athletes and musicians influence fashion, entertainments and social trends, so people want to know their daily activities. Moreover, photographs provide the news organizations with material for magazines and articles. For examples, pictures of attending an award ceremony can inform about their appearance and achievements. Therefore, a responsible photographs at public event can meet public interest.

On the other hand, constantly following famous individuals can affect their privacy lives. Celebrities may be photographed while shopping , travelling and spending time with family, even when they are not working. This can cause stress and make them feel they are being watched everywhere. In extreme cases, aggressive photographers may create dangerous situation by chasing celebrities for pictures. I therefore believe that photographers should distinguish between legitimate journalism and intrusive behavior.

In my opinion, famous people should accept media attention because it is part of their profession, but they have an expectations of privacy as well. Photographers should be allowed to take pictures only public event, while personal moments remains private unless the individual gives permission.

To conclude, although public intertest makes celebrity photography understandable, respecting privacy is also more important. A balance between journalism and personal freedom is essential.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both sides of the issue and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and logically extended, such as the distinction between public events and private moments. However, the development is somewhat brief; while the arguments are clear, they could be further supported with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points while maintaining the stance taken in the introduction.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices are used effectively, such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In my opinion', which help guide the reader. However, there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as 'a responsible photographs' (which is grammatically incorrect and disrupts the flow) and some slightly mechanical transitions. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to a coherent response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, with some good collocations like 'unjustified invasion of privacy' and 'legitimate journalism'. There is a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey ideas clearly. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and form, such as 'privacy lives' (should be 'private lives') and 'public intertest' (spelling error). The range is adequate for the task, but it lacks the more sophisticated or precise lexical control required for higher bands. The errors do not impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'This essay discuss' (subject-verb agreement), 'a responsible photographs' (article/pluralization error), and 'personal moments remains' (subject-verb agreement). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that articles and plural forms are used correctly. The control of punctuation is generally good, but the grammatical slips are frequent enough to limit the score.
