Student answer (Band 6.5)

There is increasing trend around the globe to post and write about renowned personalities as people are quite keen about their personal and professional lives. Some people support such trend while others argue that it is an invasion of their privacy. I believe popular people have all rights to keep their personal life private as publishing the details of their life can have detrimental effects on them and their family.

On the one hand, celebrities have huge fandom who follow them. Their achievements can be inspirational to their followers and photos help their fans to know regarding their routine, living standards and habits they follow. For instance, youth is highly influenced by fitness regime of a famous sports persons, pictures of them doing workout inspire them to incorporate similar practices in their daily routine.

On the other hand, taking lots of photos of famous personality expose their life to the world which can have negative effects. Firstly, paparazzi following them everywhere they go intrude their privacy and their location. As a result of that, they cannot experience moment of peace. Secondly, the safety of them and their family members may get affected . A really good example of this is disrespectful and violent behaviours towards the famous personalities.

In conclusion, although taking photographs of celebrities can be inspiring for their followers. However, too much of it can hinder their privacy and raise safety concerns. I believe photography should be in moderation and they should not be followed and captured by photographers everywhere they go.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the inspirational nature of celebrities versus the invasion of privacy. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the point about 'disrespectful and violent behaviours' is mentioned but not fully explored with a specific, concrete example. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your supporting points with more depth and nuance, ensuring that every claim is fully justified with a clear explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Firstly', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, there is a minor error in the concluding paragraph where 'although' is followed by a sentence fragment starting with 'However', which disrupts the flow. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words would enhance the overall cohesion of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic clearly. Phrases like 'detrimental effects', 'incorporate similar practices', and 'hinder their privacy' are used appropriately. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'know regarding their routine' (should be 'know about their routine') and 'famous personality' (should be plural 'famous personalities' or 'a famous personality'). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more sophisticated or less common collocations would help elevate the lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical slips. For example, 'There is increasing trend' is missing an article ('an increasing trend'), and 'famous sports persons' should be 'sportspeople' or 'athletes'. Additionally, 'they cannot experience moment of peace' requires an article ('a moment'). The sentence in the conclusion, 'In conclusion, although taking photographs of celebrities can be inspiring for their followers. However, too much of it can hinder their privacy...', is grammatically incorrect due to the improper use of the 'although' clause. More attention to articles and sentence structure is needed.
